alternator removal 220

Postby Duncan2 » Wed Sep 13, 2017 3:52 pm

Hello all.N132LFH is hopefully temporarily off the road again because I have rounded off the head of the 10 mm through-bolt on the rear of the alternator (the one nearest to the exhaust manifold that is).
Not having much luck with the Irwins I have either. What, please is the safest way to proceed?Having removed the radiator and water-pump hose I have reasonably good access.I thought of grinding the bolt-head off (the other three mounting bolts were not difficult to remove) but,if I did so would that even allow me to remove the alternator? I suspect the unit would be pinioned by what was left of the bolt.
I could possibly attempt to drill the bolt out with a right-angled drill-adaptor but it would be so nice if there was some option that was even slightly less arduous.TIA Duncan2 :oops

I had the same sort of problem when changing my alternator. if you end up removing the whole assembly to get at the bolt, take care when removing the ps pipes. The screw in fitting can sieze to the metal pipe causing it to shear off when you undo it.
