Hang on!
The SOHC and DOHC engines are completely or significantly different. Different C/R for a start, that suggests different crankshaft and con rods, possibly pistons? Look at the build order and part numbers on Rimmer Bros.

The engine less the head is more likely to be interchangeable between a D16A8 & a D16A9.

Checked with Haynes manual they confirm bar the head the engines are identical , so its sounds as though a block complete hunt is on.

Ys, the SOHC has different sized pistons and everything. I'm not sure anything will exchange between the SOHC and DOHC.

so depending on the dmg i could use a d16a8 block? but if theres any pistons or rods damaged will have to replace all with d16a9?

The haynes manual confirms the bottom of the engines are identical, i don't know never had one to bits but cc is the same . Surely somebody can confirm.

The blocks and pistons do have different part numbers between SOHC and DOHC on Rimmer's site.
