Thanks, found it. May need to give them a go.

Continuing to monitor the clock situation as it came back again this morning.

So can narrow down to three possibly related, possibly not faults.

1. Battery may be past its best bur need to get checked.

2.Clock losing the display may be related or could be faulty without a battery problem. How easy is it to remove?

3. Heated rear window only working on a few elements. I suspect this is probably entirely a standalone fault now as I did not have cause to use it up until recently.

Whats wrong with one of the these solar powered battery trickle chargers
I use both powered AC mains ones and solar ones. You can extend the bell wire charge lead so the unit can be put on the roof of garage and leave the cable inside to hitch to the car. All my cars are battery isolated the moment they come into the garage and are hitched up to shore trickle chargers - makes the batteries so much longer lived.
Had one solar charger now for years - they were a Maplin Christmas present one year.

In short, they don’t work.

If you want a trickle charger, get a smart charger.

If you want to be a cheap skate like me then get one of these from EuroCarParts, its only £21.55, I have two,
one of them keeps the battery for my cabby fully charged and its been off the road for almost 3 years.
The 25X (2001 ROVER 25 1.4 Impression S, fate TBD)
The CX8 (1997 ROVER Cabriolet 1.6 K-Series, Resto Project)
The 25XD (2004 ROVER 25 2.0TD, Track Car ?)
The Parts Bin (2001 ROVER 25 1.6 S)
The ASTRA-DX (2012 VAUXHALL ASTRA 1.7CDTi, Daily Eco Driver)
