Boot light not working in the 214 cabby

#1 Post by Dorchester » Wed Nov 13, 2019 9:16 pm

As the title says, nearly nothing is coming to the bulb (in good order): 0.5 V only!
I don't think that may be a fuse...
BTW which fuse is ruling the boot lamp? Is it F17?
If so, it's the same ruling radio & cigar lighter which are working.
Where may lie the culprit?
Where is located the boot contactor?
Thanks a lot.

I have had the same problem with my 200 hatchback, It was down to boot latch. There is a switch built in to the mechanisim the activates the light when the hatch is open, on mine the contacts were corroded. The other thing to check is the wiring loom from the body going into the boot lid as the wire can break inside the rubber sleeve. Do you have a wiring diagram? if not i can give you one.
My Rovers to date:
1994 Rover 220GSI in Tahiti blue (On the road)
2002 MG ZR 105 in Solar red (On loan)
1995 214i (On SORN)

Thank you mate. I've already got Haynes Rover 200/400 to 95 wiring diagrams at the end of the book.
I'll have a closer look in the days to come, provided it will not be so chilly as today.
I worked in the open garage in the afternoon: I was nearly frozen! Wind & moisture were appalling...
When you say "There is a switch built in to the mechanism" I assume that it should be found very close to the lock, am I wrong?

Its the latching part, (Bottom middle of boot lid) its part of mech so cant be changed like the microswitch on the key lock. You can however clean the corrosion off. The diagrams i have are the Rover ones and cover all body variants (Inc Cabriolet) Its a large PDF doc and goes into detail about the R8 electrics. Send me a PM if you want a copy.

Thank you for that. :)
And for our good mates here, here is the answer:
The loom was nearly entirely knackered between the boot lid and the body! :o
All wires have been replaced by my good mechanic et voilà boot light is back! :D
