Hydraulic lifters

Done a headgaskit and timing belt the other month along withn new water pump, thermostat pulleys new valve stem seals new cam stem seals, after putting it back together I found that a couple of the hydraulic lifters were knackered so I brought 16 new ones! Once the tourer was put back together with new lifters in she was still a bit tappy so few weeks later i changed out the oil and I thought I'd put some thicker oil in because she only slightly taps once if been driving her for 30+ mins so I thought maybe the oil was thinning out once she get up to temp so I put some 20w50 mineral oil in, thicc stuff *laughs* and it done the trick for about 2weeks and now it only slightly taps after driving for 1 hour *laughs* , thinking maybe I got a dud lifter? Should I buy some new ones? Thoughts?

You should have soaked your new tappers in 10/40 semi for a day or so prior to fitting to make sure they were full of oil prior to fitting. The engine was only ever designed for 10/40 based on being in England’s tropical environment.

Did you also line up the oil feed holes in the tappet to those in the head or did you just drop them in?

I soaked them in oil and aligned them that's why I'm still confused...

If this only happened still done the head have you sealed the cam carrier with the correct sealant

Its only done it since the work been done but I notice it more than other people but to me it sound like 1 lifter on the intake side right next to the belt like the first lifter, I used the red rtv sealent stuff

I reckon its something silly because its not that loud and tbf the alternator belt moving is about the same kind of volume, but its just a ball ache to take it apart to look at 1 single lifter *laughs*

Got to be anaerobic sealant other wise it blocks the oil ways . Strip down time .

You reckon some sealent has blocked a bit of the oil channel?

RTV wont break down like anaerobic sealant, which only cures when parts are clamped together so any left in oil ways would be washed away with the correct sealant , so yes that is possible .

I used  ELRING Curil K2  but there are others .

You need to use loctite 574 then use a roller to make sure there are no lumps etc. If you used RTV you could have blocked the oil ways damaging the lifters or cams/head. The other trouble is the cam ladder and head need to be a flush fit that's why you have to roll it flush as there's no bearings, using RTV can cause a gap between the two causing excessive clearance between the cam and cam carrier. If was you I wouldn't be driving it anywhere

Tbf I think if the oil channels were all blocked up it would be a lot louder than what it is its only a slight one but I think it might be worth a look.. John u got any that stuff u were on about that I could pinch?
