Paint code RHW Pulsar Silver?

#1 Post by 214CONCERTO216 » Wed Aug 21, 2019 10:21 pm

The letters RHW are stamped on the car paint code, and according to the Rover brochures my car has Pulsar Silver paint, but my local paint supplier says that the codes for Pulsar Silver are either MMW or 668. I'm confused.

A paint code startng with R is a duo tone combination. RHW is Quicksilver MNF and Tempest Grey 2 LOQ. What year is your car? Quicksilver only became available on the 200/400 from about 1992. Pulsar Silver was a launch colour.

My Rover is L reg, (August 1993) with the revised front indicators, etc, so another examination of the brochures does confirm that the colour is Quicksilver. Pulsar silver had more of a blue tint?

Well I would say quicksilver had more of a blue tint. Pulsar was duller. If it is 93L it will be Quicksilver MNF

There's also a platinum silver, paint code MNX. It's certainly on phase 2 cars and I guess could be on phase 1 or late phase 1 duo-tone cars too. It's a pure silver, no colour, and quite light in appearance . I think quicksilver is MNS - and yes, it has a blueish tint to it. As Jeremy said, Pulsar was an early launch colour and darker - I think it looks warmer than platinum or quicksilver - so I'd say it has a slight goldish tint to it.

Quicksilver (MNS) is the colour of that 220GTi that's still for sale for £4K. The blueish tint is pretty obvious:

RHW is the combination of MNF Quicksilver and LOQ Tempest Grey II

MNS is Quicksilver II but I am not sure that it was used in combination with Tempest Grey
MNX is Platinum Silver but is later and I am sure was never offered with Tempest Grey

It is possible it's the same colour formula but known by a different name & code for different years, even models (Ford are sh*ts for doing this).

I work for a paint supplier so I will have a hunt tomorrow.

Right here goes....

RHW is indeed a two tone code for......

MNS...Quicksilver....BLVC1200....92-95.....3 Shades
LOQ...Tempest Grey....BLVC902.....90-95..... 1 Shade

MNS.... Quicksilver......As Above.

MNX....Platinum Silver ......BLVC1209.......95-03........3 Shades

MNF....Quicksilver......BLVC906........90-95..........4 Shades

MMW....Pulsar Silver.......BLVC668.........88-92......4 Shades

MNS & MNF are both different formulations although they share the same name.

Hope this helps.

This info is from Glasurit.

Have obtained some MNS paint. Halfords sell the MNF.
