Its a replica of the original demo cars but still using all original rover stamped parts.

The original demo cars were given FOC to the 7 most profitable dealerships as an example of what could be done with their sporty models.

What's going on with those discs? That looks all sorts of wrong.

The give a way is the hydraulic pipe feeding the outside piston, so not a floating caliper and possibly a different carrier too?

And how do us ordinary mortals get hold of this kit? :glare

So went to check on the gti as there was a break in the torrential biblical downpours so thought it a perfect time to get the sponge out and get the 16 months worth of dirt off.

Its at this point everything went downhill.

I opened the garage door to find items sat on the bonnet of the gti.......ok mrs has been cleaning was my initial thought.

Then i noticed what it was sat on the bonnet......the shelf that sits on the wall above the car had decided to jump off the wall and throw all its products all over the front of the car. :mad

After creating all new and improved swear words not yet known in the english language i decided to carry on with the original plan and see how bad it was.

Thankfully not to horrendous if you don't know where to look. I do :headbanging

Bad luck and just before the show, are you still taking Big Red or will there be a change of plan?

Did you have to take all those chromed studs out before they went off to the powder coaters? :o

Not seen that design of spoke before - new or old?

And what's the rim diameter and tyre profile? It appears you've managed to get the wheels to sit at precisely the centre of each arch on the body. I've got three little letters for you... O...C...D... :laughing2

I do like them. A pattern within a pattern depending on your distance from the car, and they have a touch of "track car" about them too...

Yep, 20 studs per wheel, drill out and replaced at a cost of £72!!!

Wheels are 8 year old British knight 299 in 17" with replacement alloy spigot rings in black chrome with subtle red flake. Matched with polished chrome centre caps with silver Union Jack inserts and chrome wheel nuts.

17" opens up a whole new world of possibilities... but not for a phase 1 216GSi unfortunately :sad

With the red sparkle there's a Dorothy's ruby red slippers / Wizard of OZ / OZ racing joke in there somewhere that I'm working on but haven't managed to make funny yet :sad Either that or it's something to do with three clicks of her heels and saying there's no place like home...

Its all about the offset you use, and not having massive wide tyres.

It does take me absolutly years to choose the right wheels for a car, so was no surprise to the wife i chose these to be refurbed rather than buy new.

Didn't think they were as big as a 17". It's not that they look small, it's just that when I've seen 17s on an R8 they always look really massive rather than just fitting the shape of the arch neatly like these do.
