'Classics For Carers' charity stay-at-home event 7th June 2020

#1 Post by 220 GSi turbo » Fri May 29, 2020 10:37 pm

Following on from my previous 'Don't Drive It Day' event thread, we have been advised of another event (of sorts) in which club members can use their Rover to help raise money for NHS charities – all by staying safe at home.

The event is called 'Classics for Carers', and you may have heard of it on social media. There was an initial event in May and it is now running for a second time on 7th June.

Classics for Carers is a nationwide car show to raise money for NHS charities and takes place on owners' driveways. The idea is to display your car where people passing will see it, and money is raised for NHS Charities Together (the umbrella organisation of over 220 different NHS charities) by the sale of rally plates or stickers to display on the vehicle and via donations made by those who see your car and follow the link on the plate/sticker (and there was also a poster with a QR code to print out for the initial event). Some owners even left buckets out for folk to donate their change.

The event website is here: www.classicsforcarers.com and rally plates/stickers can be purchased here: https://shop.dragonflyrally.co.uk/classics-for-carers/

The initial event raised over £13,000 for NHS Charities together. The JustGiving fundraising page is continuing from that first event - www.justgiving.com/fundraising/classicsforcarers. The aim is to raise as much as possible, and the total has now passed £15,000 from the sale of June's rally plates and stickers over the past week (those sales take a bit longer to be added to the JustGiving total but more frequent updates are made on Facebook, Twitter etc).

The event is being organised by Nick Chivers, who can be contacted through the various links on the Classics for Carers website, but for club members to take part all they need to do is to order a plaque or a sticker and put their car on display on the 7th June. Participants are also encouraged to share photos on social media to help encourage friends and family to donate to the cause. It is an informal 'word of mouth' event, so there is no need to sign up to anything as such.

If you are intending to take part and would like to display a rally plate or sticker on the day, then I suggest you order ASAP to ensure delivery before Sunday - in some places Royal Mail deliveries are still a bit slower than usual.

Rally plates and stickers can be purchased here: https://shop.dragonflyrally.co.uk/classics-for-carers/
All profits from sales go to NHS Charities Together.
