As Rimmers where unable to source me a set of fitted mats for my 216 Cab, I had a look at the site below, who can make up custom fitted mats for all Rovers.(THEY ALSO DO BASEBALL CAPS, T-SHIRTS AND SEAT COVER SETS)
You can go through a process that lets you choose the quality, colours, and style of mat, and any logo`s or wording you may want.

WE GET A DISCOUNT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Each time you place an order, you will automaticaly receive a 15% discount.
As an example for my set with the wording `216 16v`they wanted around £45, so with discount, less than £40.
Not huge....but good for custom fit jobs.

Excellent, excellent service received from this company by myself.

I ordered some mats for my Rover 420GSi from them a couple weeks ago and I received them about a week later which is to be expected for custom made mats.

Excellent quality fabrics (I ordered luxury spec), and the binding work is top notch, front mats fitted great. But there was a snag, the rear mats were far to big.

So I got back to CarMats4U by e-mail and recieved a reply within the space of an hour, being very helpful. We'd found out that the templates they used for the specific car was incorrect

I offered to measure my footwells and get back to them. I then received another email just as quickly as the last saying that'd be great and they'd get the new ones sent out as quickly as possible.

We'd finished e-mailing on Friday just gone and I received the perfectly re-cut mats yesterday.

Absolutely top notch.

Best of all, us member get 15% off the list prices! :)

Carmats 4U

#6 Post by g259fsg » Tue Mar 16, 2010 10:29 am

I recently bought a set of new mats for our 1990 214GSi from Carmats4U who advertise on our website. We bought the luxury type mat in black with a black/grey binding costing about £35. The mats look good and fit the car very well, being cut to the correct shape, so maybe better than generic mats from a car shop.

Cheers,
Hugh

Car Mats 4 U

#8 Post by Johnny 216GSi » Mon May 25, 2015 9:05 pm

Thinking of getting some new mats.

I understand the club has a discount with said company?

Can anyone let me know the details of how to get the discount, if it still exists? Bear in mind although I'm a paid up member of the club, I haven't been blued so I don't have access to the members-only area on the forum.

Would be interested to see a pic of the driver's mat they do as part of the set, if anyone's ever bought these - and what the best finish to go for is - they do premium and luxury sets at about £35 and £50, then there's a £99 set which has a 2cm pile - I'm not sure about the safety of a 2cm driver's side pile but anyway...

I only ask because the Rover dealer I bought my car from 20 years ago provided a mat set with mine. I liked the cut so much (because it fits under the pedals a fair way) I enquired at the dealer to find out where they used to have them made - turns out is was Car Mats 4 U (not called that back then - and no web presence of course!) I'd therefore be interested to know if the driver's side cut on the current set is the same as it was 20 years ago. It probably is, but just in case...

Car mats 4 U ? :blushing Do we, where exactly? I've just had a quick look with out success.

Regarding getting turned blue, you need to send a pm to GTiJohn as he has some administrator access and can do this for you.

As you are possibly aware some of the info' on the website is in need of updating and this is an on going issue for the committee.

I've just ordered these:

I'll report back on what they are like. My wife suggested buying some of the original beige mats from Rimmer Bros and dyeing them darker, but I decided against this!

I'd advise anyone thinking of trying this to think again! I bought a couple of sets of beige mats on this basis.

Had the foresight to mask up the foam on the back (but it's so old, when you pull the tape off, bits of foam come off with it - even if you use an easily removable masking tape). Took me hours to do properly - wanted a good result.

Then bought some of the fabric/carpet dye "as seen on TV" - the stuff that the manufacturers claim has been shown on grand designs or some such home-improvement programme, where they spray a white headboard pink.

Bought a couple of cans of the black stuff. Laid out a huge cover sheet so I didn't make a mess and began to spray...

The result? Well, that particular spray was next to useless. I got a watery-black colour that showed the underlying "golden beige" fabric colour way too much - ended up looking like badly tarnished gold or some mucky dark khaki colour. Completely useless. I had to spray a really heavy coat to get any kind of coverage at all - despite the manufacturers claims that it doesn't change the feel of the fabric, the mats ended up... well, matted. A "crispy" pile that looked like someone had washed them in a polluted river...

I had checked beforehand the carpets where permeable to water (as recommended) and I'd warmed up the room and cans to 20 degrees - also as recommended.

With hindsight, the technique may have worked using a pitch-black dye with sufficient pigmentation to hide the beige colour underneath. I know some of the auto upholstery cleaners do dyes - (Autoglym?) - maybe one of these would of been appropriate. But you still have the problem of trying to mask up the foam on the rear which tears with the removal of even the lightest of tapes.

Still, having wasted one rear mat, the 1.75 sets of mats were sold on here to someone who paid me about £18 to buy them. With one unopened set and replacement front mats from the other set if and when they wear out, I made someone very happy :blink

These mats have arrived. They are a good fit but they're not the best quality. I think I'll be lucky to get 6-12 months out of them, or at least the driver's one anyway.
