NEW HISTORICAL ADVERTS SECTION ON THE WEBSITE

#1 Post by Johnny 216GSi » Fri Dec 20, 2019 5:01 pm

Hello everyone,

So Steve (our former Treasurer and current Webmaster) has worked really hard to add a huge number of original Rover adverts for the cars covered by our club on the website.

These can be found by choosing to the "Cars" menu on our home page. Then click on any of the "models covered" options and click on the "adverts" sub-option. Click on a thumbnail to bring up the full-size image.

I basically put these together a while ago and then asked Steve how we could put these on the website for everyone to see.

Enjoy the nostalgia, or for younger viewers who don't remember or never saw the adverts the first time around, this might bring home just how much of a prospect all the cars were when they were new.

Is there any problem with these adverts on the said page (Rover 200)?
I can't see any pic... They look empty... :sad

All working on my Android 9 smart phone, as well as my Windows 10 PC.

Not sure what the problem is to be honest, as they're all working for some people.

I've just tried on my LG smartphone: that works fine.
Hence my conclusion is that something's looks wrong in the advert webpage because some computers and / or browsers or phones cannot have access to the pics.
My system is Linux Ubuntu & my browser is Firefox, but I insist that I can have access on any other pages on the web but the 200/400 adverts webpage...
Weird... :S

I should add that I've just tried as well with Chromium instead of Firefox and the result is the same: blank thumbnails. :sad
The problem doesn't look to be in a browser but in the system: the advert section doesn't like some system.

My eldest son who is a computer specialist told me that it's a JAVA problem and that lots of systems (and not only linux) had problems with java.
He had a look on the advert section webpage source code and there's a procedure that doesn't work on every computer or phone.
Hence if I click on the mouse right button and ask the jpg file to be directly opened in another tab while avoiding the JAVA line, that works fine. :)

Here on my MacBook Pro, Firefox displays fine, Safari does not. Safari's developer tools reveal that the images are downloaded, but they don't get rendered.

Out of interest, for those of you that can't open up the files, are you able to open the photos in "Past Events" section of the website?

It's not at all out of interest but a very wise question Jeremy: :thumbup
in the "Past Events" section my system (Linux Ubuntu + Firefox) is able to show every thumbnail & every bigger sized picture. :D
Would the same coding procedure be applied to the "Adverts section", there would be no problem at all for anybody. :cool
