Yes I did notice that the original query related to the Honda engine, but as your post, Richard, also mentioned other engines, I felt it appropriate to open up the discussion to include other engines. So its not really academic at all, it is now helping out readers who have non-Honda engines...........

I have in front of me, the 'Rover 200/400 maintenance check sheet' RCL 0164 ENG 2nd edition dated 1996. In other words, the sheet used by technicians in Rover dealers. It specifies cambelt check at 24k for M series, 48k for K series and T series. Then replacement at 48k for M series, 60k for 216/416...

I thought it was 72,000 for the K-series??? (originally 96,000 but then Rover decided to be a bit more cautious!)

How often should the tensioner be changed on the K16?

I had a waterlogged boot on a new Coupe back in 1993.......but it was Rover's problem then, not mine! All of the 3-door cars in our family (216GTi TC, 214 SEi and 220 GSi turbo) let water into the boot.........I have spent ages on the turbo with all the trim removed trying to find out where it comes...

N219 EPO, Rover 214 SLi (Charcoal Grey)

After writing my post on the 'Optional Extras' thread, it got me thinking about what had happened to the special order 214 SLi I had in 1995. I left the job in 1996 and didn't take the company car with me, and I guess it would have been passed on to somebody else within the company before being sold...

Is that BRG (green)?

If so, it's quite rare: most GSi were charcoal or blue............

Haven't got time to put my anorak on and give y'all the full list *laughs* but generally the options list got bigger later on in production. I had a new 214 SLi in 1995 and had metallic paint, air conditioning, ABS and alloy wheels: my budget (or rather my compny's budget) would not stretch to the f...

Because Rover used REAL wood, unlike some foreigners, the colour and grain varies from car to car. Some cars have almost an 'antique pine' strip (quite yellow), others have a strip with lots of knots in it. My turbo was fitted with a very dark strip and it does look really good. So if anybody thinks...

Bad news.

The Metro/100 have a different stud spacing (PCD) that is shared with the Maestro, MGF, etc.

200/400 wheels only fit the Honda-based Rovers and the later 200 and 25 cars.

Not sure about the City Rover...........

Thanks for that,

Engine was definitely hot: the fan had been on and off a couple of times by the time we got that magic 'pass'.

I'll check the relay first, if not I'll change the sensor, then the cat, in that order. With 161,000 on the clock, it hasn't done badly!

Cheers

Another emissions issue

Rather than start yet another emissions thread, I thought I would tag on to this one. My '94 214 SEi just scraped through the emissions test last week, after about the third attempt (fast idle test). Limit was 0.30, most of the time it was sitting 0.6-0.7 but with careful manipulation of the revs a ...

I have had good results in the past with a 13/16 inch ring spanner and a Pozidrive screwdriver. Put the spanner over the offending nut (having removed the stainless cap, of course), then poke the screwdriver through the ring of the spanner into one of the recesses on the nut. It will then undo.......

Do they 'park' normally at the bottom of the screen when you switch them off from slow or fast speed? If not, it is likely to be a fault in the self-park switch built in to the motor: just get a secondhand motor from a breaker. On intermittent, the relay only powers the motor for half a second to ge...

Red 220 GSi turbo on ebay

Did anybody in the club / on this forum end up with the red 220 GSI turbo (40,000 miles) that sold on eBay last night? :clapping Would be interested to know how good it is: the seller mebtioned rust, but was it just a couple of stone chips? Was very tempted myself, but I've already got one and the w...
