Re: Vinny's Rover 220 GSi Turbo Diary - September 2020, new alternator!

Personally I don't like the new mg range, they seem like insults to their ancestors To be fair, hardline MG enthusiasts have said that several times over the years: 1962, when the MG1100 was launched. 1982, when the MG Metro was launched. 2001, when the ZR, ZS and ZT were launched. And probably a f...

Re: This is why i don't recommend transmech clutches

Nah, a bit of T-cut on that pressure plate followed by some Pritt Stick and chopped up Kelloggs cereal packets on the drive plate will have it back as good as new :laughing2

Re: 414, Intermitent starting - Battery drainage

How flat is the battery after a week? Struggling to turn the engine over, or completely dead? (dash lights very dim or not coming on at all?) My thoughts would be that it is either draining back through thje alternator diodes or possibly the wiring to the bootlid has chafed through and it is causing...

Re: 2001 25 Immobiliser help please !

A few thoughts: Original fault is probably the driver's door lock motor or its wiring (including the connector on the edge of the door where the body loom joins it). If not, it could be the 5AS (alarm) control module which is mounted behind the dashboard on the driver's side, right up above the fuse...

Re: Rover 45 Door Handle Surrounds.

Found my modified spare door handles. That's the good news! Taken photo's and they are on my desk top. More good news. Now have no idea how to attach them to my message? :S This may help you: https://www.rover200.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=12794 We are not able to upload photos directly to t...

Re: Rover 45 Door Handle Surrounds.

Perhaps you should get a set of replacement handles, carry out repairs and reinforcements then swap with yours as and when needed. You will then have a spare set to refurbish ready for next time! :)

Re: Rover 45 Door Handle Surrounds.

I am fairly sure that the problem will be the brass(?) inserts in the plastic surround that the retaining screws go into. The inserts pull out of the plastic eventually. The fix is to remove the whole lot from the door, then either use Araldite or similar to bond the insert back in to the plastic. O...

Re: Engine problem with 2005 25 1.6 SEI CVT

Another couple of suggestions: manifold gasket leaking where the water pipe passes through it, allowing coolant to get into the adjacent inlet port. (Many a K-series has been mis-diagnosed with HGF over the years as a result of a rogue manifold gasket!) This could cause the misfire (if enough water ...

Rimmer Bros New Year sale: 12.5% off until 17th January 2021

Received a mailing from Rimmer Bros this morning: 12.5% off all orders over £100 (excluding VAT) until 17th January. OK, there are exceptions (e.g. Clearance items) but now might be a good time to stock up on anything needed (and at least the shipping charge will be less painful if buying lots of it...

Re: The car locks itself with the engine off with me inside!

OK, am I correct in thinking this is a 2004/5 model? There is an auto-relocking function that will lock the car after 30 seconds if you unlock it with the fob and then don't open the door (e.g. the button gets pressed when you put your wallet in your pocket next to the fob). I would think that the i...

Re: Fog Lamps or Driving Lights

Before adding any auxiliary lamps (unless you want the 'style factor' that goes with them!) try upgrading the bulbs in the existing headlamps, which already include a 'driving' lamp. Even a brand new 'stock' bulb will have a better output than a well-used 25-year-old bulb and there are plenty of upg...

Drive belt age

We all know that drive belts need replacing not just after a specific mileage but also when they get to around 6 years old, even if mileage has been low. My question is, do unused belts have a 'shelf' life? Is there a risk of buying a 'new' belt that could be several years old and will fail prematur...
