Re: 'L' Series 2.0 Diesel - Power Loss

It is most probably the MAF (mass air flow) sensor which is in the black tube with wires connected to it between the air filter and engine. These degrade with time and the ECU relies on the signal from the MAF to determine how much fuel to send to the injectors. If cleaning the MAF sensor does not h...

Re: Luton Festival of Transport, Sunday 27th June. CLUB STAND!

We achieved a total of 6 on the club stand at one point (after conscripting a 220 GTi owner who was parked with the general classics :wink3 ) and also a couple of other members dropped by to say hello although they had not brought their cars with them. It was good to see you all! I am sure somebody ...

Re: Rover 416GSi - values and what to do

Sounds like a careless windscreen fitter caused that many years ago. I had the same issue with my 420 GSi Turbo (tried to claim on the corrosion warranty at the time, but the workshop manager took one look at the windscreen, saw it was a replacement and that was the end of my claim). Luckily the rus...

Re: Rover 214si 6 year SORN

I can't remember which company it was, but I did hear a while ago that there was a company who would cover young drivers on a classic policy if another family member already had a classic insured with them. I guess they are trying to encourage those who have a genuine interest in classic vehicles ra...

Re: R8 Drivers Door Checkstrap

There should be a bracket (or flange) which sticks out of a slot in the A pillar. I think this is spot welded to the A pillar. I wonder if that has come adrift and fallen into the A pillar panel? The check strap is attached to this bracket/flange with a large split pin (and by two bolts at the othe...

Re: Luton Festival of Transport, Sunday 27th June. CLUB STAND!

Any more for this? Make sure you book a 'club' ticket so that you get directed straight to our stand when you arrive. The online booking process did seem a bit long-winded (they wanted a photo of the car as well) but it all worked in the end. Or if you are paying on the gate, explain that you are on...

Re: Late Model Tourer Interior Question

You can fit more or less anything from an earlier R8 (I believe the rear seats from hatchback R8s also fit the Tourer) and you can use front seats from an R3 (200 Mk3, 25, ZR etc) but not a lot else. Actually, now I think of it, I am sure I have seen BRM carpets fitted in an R8 before, so you may be...

Re: Looking at a MG 6 or MG 3? edit bought a mg 3 lux!

My parents-in-law have an MG3 'Style Lux' and have no complaints with it. Admittedly, it could do with a more exciting engine (I do know of a company that has installed a 1.8 turbo K-series in one!) but it seems to be screwed together better than my 2005 ZR (and the 2005 ZS that my in-laws had befor...

Re: 200 cabriolet derestricted SS exhaust, anyone?

Almost 20 years ago I bought an uprated stainless system from Moto-Build for my 220 Turbo and several years before that I bought a stainless system from them for my MG Maestro EFi. They are still in business now: https://www.moto-build.com/ and although they do not appear to have anything specific t...

Re: How many R8's left - do we have a definitive number?

The SEi and Sprint were effectively limited edition (added value) models based on the 214 Si, so I suspect they did not get a unique VIN identifier.

Re: 218 Alarm

Do you know if it is a factory-fitted alarm, or aftermarket? I don't think lower-spec cars had a standard alarm in 1993, so it could be a 'random' aftermarket system, or a Rover-approved kit fitted by the dealer. Is the flashing LED situated in the centre of the instrument pack, or just fitted in to...
