Re: Back again SD3 Vitesse now

OK so for once I'm being sensible. Spent half a day going over what needs doing and what time and room I have available. I'd hoped to get this running and moving by now as I'm blocking a couple of other people's cars as well as my chammy in the storage space, I now think it's not going to happen qui...

Re: Back again SD3 Vitesse now

Just to give you a little peace of mind if you decide to have a go at starting it: the 'S' series engine is safe as far as the cambelt is concerned, so if it is past its 'best before' date and decides to break on you, it won't do any internal damage :) Oily engine bay.........the 'S' series is one ...

Re: Back again SD3 Vitesse now

Well it arrived today, looking in detail: It looks like it needs a rear exhaust, a small bit of welding on OSR sill and tyres. Brakes work but are binding - might just replace the calipers if they dont free off easily - as well as the flexi pipes/rear cylinders - plus pads/shoes. Most electrics work,...

Re: Back again SD3 Vitesse now

Thanks chaps.
Its a pre face lift high boot model - as per my SD1, I like lifting things!!
I spotted the one being broken earlier on, might call on that for any used bits.
Shopping starts Wednesday when it arrives (got a delivery cheaper than hiring a trailer plus fuel and time off!).

Back again SD3 Vitesse now

Hi again I've bought a 'long standing' (literally) SD3 1600 Vitesse - still got the 57,000 mile R8 420GSi Sport, and an SD1 2600.......... I fully blame the chap I spoke to on the stand at the NEC on the Friday!!!!! :laughing2 Anyway, as usual I wanted to regain my youth (well mid 20s really) and th...

416 Gti central locking and other minor electricals - help?

OK almost everything electrical works on the Gti, the problems I have left are: sun roof slides forward and back but doesn't tilt - assume it should - no sound of anything trying to tilt it; doors all lock manually with key or by internal button, but CDL doesn't work - yes I have checked fuse and it...

Re: Can't add photos?

Yes, I, too, have not posted pics here as I do not have a Flickr or Photobucket account and don't really want one. Surely there is an "attach" option somewhere that would make picture adding simpler. It's the complexity of the operation that puts off non-techies like me. I am sure I am no...

Re: NS Door mirror - help please?

It isn't usual. Mirrors should fold and stay folded, then spring back. The glass is held on by a snap ring at the back. From memory there are two release levers, like wire-frame black sliders that can be seen top and bottom of the glass but behind it. These have to be pushed in I seem to remember. ...
