Re: G-reg Rover 416 GSi

That looks really good. Those wheels look just right on that model and anything else would be an undesirable modification on such an original-looking car.

Re: G-reg Rover 416 GSi

Or the car was registered in Peterborough and then resold at the Ware dealership.

Re: G-reg Rover 416 GSi

The sunroof is standard, the a/c would have been an option.

I see it doesn't have the top spec radio cassette as fitted to the GTi and other top of the range models such as MG Montegos and Rover 800s.

Re: 416 GTi broken down - help/advice sought!

Yes, it's good. This is the second time the car has had a reprieve because I bought it as a non-runner as the previous owner bailed when the alternator failed - which was the first fix I did on the car. But to be honest, if I'd had to spend £450+ for a new distributor, I may have wobbled a bit! Now ...

Re: 416 GTi broken down - help/advice sought!

Yes there a little sachet of white stuff. I applied it as suggested. I have three sets of wheels: 1. The cross-spokes on the car that are not kerbed, hold air and look original. They do have a lot of caked on brake dust. 2. Brand new set of cross-spokes still in the original packaging. 3. Newly acqu...

Re: 416 GTi broken down - help/advice sought!

The igniter arrived today and I fitted it and... Drum roll.. The car started! I was a little surprised because I was worried that I'd end up chasing parts round the engine changing this that or the other. I used the old distributor cap and rotor arm as they seemed to be okay. The old igniter looked ...

Re: 416 GTi broken down - help/advice sought!

First setback today. The distributor cap arrived but it was quite different from the one I have removed. It is much shallower and the holes for the bolts are in a different place. I'll have to send it back (it was advertised as fitting the car). Anyway the main part, the igniter has not arrived yet....

Re: 416 GTi broken down - help/advice sought!

A new igniter is on its way to me. I'll be fitting that and a new distributor cap when it arrives. Cost so far £36.

If that works, happy days. If not, I'll check out the relay you mention. However the normal clicks and whirs are all still there when I turn on the ignition.

Re: 416 GTi broken down - help/advice sought!

Thanks Johnny.

Yes, the engine refused to restart even after I had towed it home and it had cooled down. The Check Engine light comes on (and goes out) as normal when the ignition is switched on.

One flash when I first turned the ignition on. I pulled out fuse 4 (which wasn't hazards) and a few others but I couldn't get any more than one flash of the LED.

Anyway I am going to buy one of those igniters and see how I get on.
