Re: VIN Decoder Question

I didn't realise there was a VIN Decoder until I read your post! :laughing2

There was/is a report button at the bottom of the page when I looked at it just now?

Re: 14K4 rebuild questions

I realise that Ricky has a relatively late K Series engine. But for the benefit of other people reading this thread, neither Motoclan or Rimmer's can be trusted regarding the build order of early R8 [XW] K Series engined vehicles. The pipe bend differs, possible due to removing some of the external ...

Re: 214 cams question

The ideal fuel to air ratio for efficient combustion 1:15 parts of air. This would suggest that the ECU is matched to the throttle body, as a smaller T.B passes a smaller volume of air in a given time and there are no carburation issues going on behind the throttle butterfly valve.

Re: 14K4 rebuild questions

Yep the one that Mark took off mine had more perforations than a lace table cloth; plus a couple of straight edged slots where it looked like it had been 'encouraged' by a straight edged tool of some description. So it's a good idea to inspect for prior bodgery!

Re: 214 cams question

Just to add to the conversation regarding manifolds/throttle bodies: my very late 93 build 214Si is according to the book a 94 model year build she has the early petrol filter, alloy manifold and obviously the larger T.B and really flies. The acceleration from 70 upto well in excess of the motorway ...

Re: 14K4 rebuild questions

While it's all apart it's important to inspect/replace the steel coolant pipe that runs under the manifold; these come in 'patterns various' depending on your application, but others can be fitted. I wouldn't reuse the old thermostat housing, but buy a new assembly complete. There may be a choice of...

Re: 14K4 rebuild questions

I own a 214 [R8] with the alloy inlet manifold, the throttle body and stepper motor differ from the plastic manifold I believe? A decent engine rebuilder will be able to pressure test the cylinder head coolant passages; if there are voids in the head surface exposed by a skim, the head is suspect. T...
