There are a few for sale at the moment [cough] Would I be correct in assuming they were sold as standard with colour coded bumpers and doors; Rover Sport badged alloys and mudflaps front & rear? :slapme

There were 3 versions of the 214SEi. The first version was the first 200 to be "grilled" but had grey standard bumpers and grey lower panels. The second version added the seven spoke wheels and the final version was used as a high value run out model and is the most common with all the extras on. I'm not sure that it had rear mudflaps as standard though. The front mudflaps were black rather than grey because the lower body was body colour rather than grey.

If your are thinking of the later model SEI, you are about right. I dont remember if many had mud flaps, but every one ive seen came with the same alloys as the 220GSI. Correct me if im wrong but i remember the 3dr version had grey bumpers and lower paint. All the 5dr ones had the colour coded bumpers and lower paint

Here is one i would say is standard SEI spec for the 5dr runout model:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rover-214-SE ... nav=SEARCH

I saw dozens like this in Breakers yards about 10yrs back, All 'M' or 'N' reg. They seemed to be most common in Nightfire red or British Racing Green.

Yeah it’s a real shame a lot of them went for scrap, but I remember when I was buying my first SEi in 2002 and there were some right sheds around even back then!

It's a shame there was never a 216SEi, that would have been an amazing car.

It was a sold as a value model towards the end of the R8's main production run. Rover wouldn't have used the Honda 1.6 engine on a value model as it would have cost too much money to buy in. The 1.6K wasn't available until the launch of the HH/R.

You could order the 216 from new with the 7-spoke alloy wheels, but the Silverstone half-leather was never on the options list for any R8. You could have ordered full leather, though, but from what I remember it was well in excess of £500.

A few home-built 216 SEis have graced this forum........swapping out the half-leather interior and alloys from a tired 214 is all in a morning's work for some folk on here (and that's probably before breakfast :wink3 )

Slight topic deviation here, but how do the rear seats come out of a 216? I had a quick look before picking up a set of 600 Ti black half leather jobies and wanted to remove the rear folding seat; it isn't obvious! :blushing

I converted my old 216 SLi to 214 SEi spec :-)

Only really needed the seats and door cards (picked up for £100) and 7 spoke alloys (picked up for £60).
