FS 1990 216 GSi Auto 42K - £1,250 Hampshire

Post by StubbornPatriot »

We have been contacted to help with finding a new home for this Rover 216 GSi Auto. Looks like it’s got rear electric windows too.

If interested please register interest here or PM me and I'll put you in touch with the seller.

We have owned this car since 1993 and it has been used by my Mother. It runs like a dream. Please would you be kind enough to circulate this to your Members. Mot'd in March and not used since.

£1250 (Hampshire) Many thanks.

The car is a Rover 216 GSi in pale blue metallic with darker blue leather trim. It has an automatic gearbox and has covered only 42, 400 miles since new.
My Parent’s bought it from a friend of some friends when it was three years old and 4,800 miles.

It was supplied new by Mann Egerton & Co. Ltd. of 242 Morden Road. London SW19 3BZ on 2nd August 1990. with the Reg. NO. of H805UGH. My Parents didn’t much like the Reg. so bought one from DVLA which was H18PMH and that number has been on it since 30th Dec.1993 and I hope it will remain on it.

It has been maintained by our own garage business throughout the time we have owned it, with the exception of the last MOT which I had carried out in March this year just before Lockdown. It sailed through and has not been used since. In fact it has hardly been used in the last four years and only done less than 6,000 miles in the last ten years.
Since 36,571 miles it has been serviced twice and had the following fitted:- Three new tyres, Water Pump, Cam Belt,Centre and rear exhaust sections, Distributor cap,
Spark Plugs, Oil Filter, Air Filter, front wiper blades.

The last oil and filter change was done on 3rd January 2017 along with a MOT just before we sold our business. The mileage then was 42,373 !
The last Cam belt change was in 2010 at 36K so really, on a time basis and for peace of mind it should probably be done again quite soon.

The car runs like a dream really and I would have no hesitation in driving it to Scotland tomorrow if I needed to.

It has never had any accident repair work, although a few years ago I did have one or two minor marks repaired. The wheel arches ,underside of doors etc. are all really sound and so is the underside.

The Leather trim is not split or damaged at all and the carpets are like new as they have always been covered by Rover tailored floor mats.

The bodywork as you will see is in almost immaculate condition, but any car that is thirty years old and in original condition is bound to have one or two minor blemishes.

It has only really been used by my Mother and father as there second car which had light use and was always carefully driven.

There is a minor rattle at times which I think is from the exhaust down pipe heat shield and I suspect could be easily put right.

The only issues I am aware of are:- 1, The nearside rear electric window does not work, but I think it is only a wire issue and lack of use ,and 2, The electric Sunroof is not working
at the moment. I recall that it was a bit hit and miss at times and we suspected a poor switch contact , so I think we disconnected the power supply to it so Mum wouldn’t get
caught out with the roof in the open position in a rain storm. I do not think that either are motor issues, but power failure.

I have the original Handbook, service book and Audio book, Radio code card, and two ignition Keys. (The central locking works fine)

I feel that whoever is the next owner will have a lot of pleasure for their £ 1,250.00

I would be happy to deliver it anywhere , provided that my expenses were paid.

P.S. I also have my late father’s Ford Granada Scorpio Estate (V6, 2.9Ltr) to sell. Owned from new with 28K and it is totally immaculate condition but the Cruise control switch
has a fault of some sort. I think it is worth £ 5,500.00 . Just in case you know of any Ford enthusiasts as I doubt that you would find a better one.

Coo! In this colour and trim it does look like the ideal car to float happily off into retirement in.
Can't see an ALB modulator, so that's one less thing to worry about.

Does look very nice. No ALB, no aircon, but electric sunroof, all-round electric windows and power steering. Exactly the spec. you want.

You aren't going to find too many boots in the early flint trim colour, trimmed round the edges in Prussian Blue!

With the exterior trim looking that good, it's either been garaged or covered for its entire life.

Deserves to be saved and restored.

That is an excellent price for an excellent car: I hope it goes to the right sort of home :)
I would imagine that if a dealer got hold of it, the price would rise exponentially!

No interested parties up to yet though. We need more members who aren't yet Rover 200/400 owners but want to be!

There's the rub!
How would we go about making it so?
