216 GTi TC + 75

Hi All,

I know a lot of people ask how much their cars are worth on forums and get shot down. They're only worth what people are willing to pay etc.

So, at risk of getting shot down, i would like to kindly ask that very question. I have stumbled across two cars which i was going to keep, but due to me moving storage units i have to cull some of the collection.

Ive recently bought a 2005 Rover 75 1.8T in factory fresh condition and with only 15k on the clock. One lady owner from new and good history.

Also, i've bought what i think might be Princess sparkle ....i.e. a unicorn!
1991 Rover 216 GTi Twin Cam in white, 84k miles, no rot obvious (but i need to have a proper look underneath when its on a ramp), great body work and one lady owner from new + dealership so guessing it was a demonstrator or a pre reg. Completely original and in very good condition. Not perfect but certainly an excellent example.
The 216 failed its mot in Jan this year but i think it may have been an overzealous tester that may have been looking to take advantage of an elderly customer? Rusted out suspension component was cited but i have had a good look and it seems to be just surface rust. I will be getting an MOT done on it as soon as i can get a booking slot.

The 75's reg is H14AVC and the 216 is H15AVC, so consecutive registration plates that have been valued at 600, with the pair being valued together at 1500.

I've also learnt that there are only 9 216 GTi TCs licenced in 2020, 10 last year until this one failed its MOT.

I haven't uploaded any pics to a public URL so can't post any pics on here.

So, what do you think they're worth? Also, do you think i should sell them as a pair as they have been in the same ownership since new?

Many thanks + be kind please ;-)

Vin

I think you should utilise our storage @ £50pm or £90 for two cars.

If you want an honest answer your 75 is a low valued (not Necessarily low value) car. But I’d expect between £1200-1800 on a good day (stay off eBay).

The 216 “unicorn” as you say is worth a little more but if you want a quick sale you might be disappointed. £1500-2500 on a good day.

Sell the plates separately.

Thanks for that. And thanks for the storage offer, but it’s a temporary issue, I’m building a unit at home so weather permitting it’ll be sorted in a couple of months just before my lease is up fingers crossed. Still need a cull though .

There’s no minimum or maximum time scale.

The issue you have is it could possibly be the worst time to due job uncertainty and potential 2nd lock downs and no one knowing from one minute to the next what’s going to be happening.

Didn't the GTI fail the MOT on serious corrosion if it's the white one off Facebook (one of the user's told me about it)

It’s not been advertised on Facebook, some pics are on there though.

It failed in Jan because of:

Nearside Rear Suspension component mounting prescribed area excessively corroded significantly reducing structural strength (5.3.6 (a) (i))
Nearside Rear Seat belt anchorage prescribed area strength or continuity significantly reduced (7.1.1 (a) (i))

But we’ll see what happens when it goes in again.

Interesting question ref value, I have a 216 GTi probably the earliest 5 door GTi on the road. H reg 1990. Not for sale.
But in April 2017 it was valued at £3,800 by Classic Car Buyer weekly and it was seen as an appreciating model.

On ‘How Many Left’ there is only one shown on the road from 1990, possibly mine but there is also a three door GTI out there on a G reg somewhere.

Obviously times have changed and buyers will be more cautious about investing in classics.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
