Im sure by now everyone knows ive been looking constantly for a 3 door 216 GTi TC with no luck

When as if by magic i had a call from a friend saying there is one in the next village to my home

Naturally first thing i did today was to go and investigate. Sure enough he was right but wasnt quite what i had in mind

Anyway after a bit of asking around i found out the land on which the car sits on and the adjoining house has been untouched for quite a time since the owner passed away. Luckily i got the details of the next of kin and made contact, he doesnt know anything much about the "two" old Rovers there other than then being his uncles cars who as said passed away some time ago but i could go onto the land and look at them see if i was interested in making a offer....
Here is the sorry states of the two vehicles.....

From what i could tell from my limited viewing is the GTi has 83k on the clock and other than needing repair to the nearside rear sill and wheel arch looked in not to bad condition. So what do you guys think a fair offer would be

The last 2 GTi's i posted here i got for £250 each as parts cars, i was thinking of £350 as once its pulled out may be a wreck

Seems like a fair offer to me. It may be saveable but if not I'm sure you'll get close to what you paid by stripping it

Wonder if the mice have converted the engine loom into a nest?
Hope you get this sorted while you have donor candidates available.

I’d try and offer them scrap value for the GTI
Tell them you will do all the work digging it out and taking the car away with no hassle to the land owner.
It’s a gamble and could be a rot box underneath/inside.
Good luck with it, let us know how you get on.

I'd imagine £150 per vehicle (scrap value) is a fair offer. If you don't take on one or t'other, they'll sit there until property sold and new owner will call scrap man who will collect them at £50 a car and crush them.
At best scrap man will try and sell parts at High Street prices, which is still a less desirable outcome than you taking one on and recommissioning whole car or having a significant spares pile and items to be reused by the rest of us!!!! Ha ha

You could take the risk of going in 'cheap', but that could then stir the landowner into thinking that he could do better.
The scrap car industry seems reasonably savvy to the values of older cars nowadays and dealers will often chance their arm at flipping on ebay. I wouldn't mind betting that both of those cars when presented on the back of a flatbed truck (instead of overgrown in bushes) would probably make close on £500. So I would be inclined to suggest you go in at the £250-£350 you were already thinking and suggest to the landowner that you will put the word out about the SD1 (which will be more accessible when the 216 has been moved from behind it).
It would be great for both of these cars to find their way into the enthusiast community without middlemen/ebay involved

Thanks everyone I will give it a few days and go back with a price. Got a feeling this one won't come though as I get the impression he thinks worth a few pounds and it certainly doesn't appear he needs the money

can only try tho. Don't want to low ball to much as think that will definitely be the end of it
