Rover 200 & 400 Owners Club

I came across the above earlier, parked in a field. The MOT expired in October 2019, probably due to corrosion problems. I will have to contact the owners to see what the situation is.

I've heard back from the owner. He's happy to accept the scrap value for it.

I haven't inspected closely, but it appears to be a 1.8 5 door and may have a leather interior.

Ideally, it would be nice if if was a viable Restoration project. Without seeing any photos, what do you think would be a fair price for it?

I have recently acquired an MoT failure Rover 25 1.4 and have been quoted £170 by cartakeback.com to scrap it (that is the price they will pay if they come to collect it)

However, I am stripping it of anything useful first, so that price is likely to go down

After phoning a couple of local scrapyards (one quoted £160 collected), I offered £150 which he accepted.

I'm not raising my hopes too high, but if it's not viable as a project, at least it will be a valuable parts donor. Fingers crossed!

I went to have a close look at it yesterday.

Overall, it's in pretty good condition.

Paintwork is pretty good although looking at the photos last night, there may be a dent in the rear offside door, but nothing serious.

The Turbine alloys have flaking paint, revealing a white undercoat.

The small quarterlight glass in the rear, nearside door is broken. I was concerned that there may be water damage, but everything looks pretty good. In fact, it might have kept it aired, as there's very little mildew.

The boot is dry.

It has a black leather interior of the later design. It's all pretty filthy inside, but nothing a good clean won't sort.

The only potential problem is rust and the bottom of the front wheel arches to to front floor pan. I can't really assess it until it's picked up.

Short term, the plan is to recommission it, as it's too good to break. I would keep it if I had more secure space, but it's not really practical.

It's now back at my mechanic's premises. Overall, it's not too bad, although it does a small amount of welding. A full report to follow.

I popped over yesterday to give it a quick clean and vacuum inside and fit a replacement rear quarterlight glass. This was advertised on Ebay as being for every model year 45. Unfortunately, it turned out to be too big!

I doubt if Rover produced two different designs of door, so I assume that it's been mis-advertised. Can anyone confirm before I ask for a refund?

Does anyone know if the answer to the above question? I've contacted the seller of the glass and sent him a photo of it against my 2005 car.

It appears that the 'mystery' may have been solved! The chap thinks he might have sent one from a 25 by mistake! If anyone would like it for the cost of postage or would like to pick it up, please let me know. There are one or two scratches on it though.
