Gauging interest in R8 3 door and Cabriolet rear 3/4 repair panels

Post by GTiJohn »

Following the success of the Coupe rear 3/4 repair panel, as funded by the Rover Coupe Owners club, we are looking to making available the same panel but for the 3 door and Cabriolet R8 derivatives.

It will look like this but not extend that far into the door opening

Image

On the 3 door this section is part of the car's monoside panel but on the Cabriolet it is cut behind the rubbing strip and joined to a different upper section.

The Coupe panel was significantly larger than our intended panel and therefore more expensive - we are hoping for a price of 'a couple of hundred' pounds per panel at most.

So using this as an assumption, who would be interested in buying an offside panel, a nearside panel or both?

We are looking to fund the tooling with a 3rd party supplier, who will then sell the parts alongside their other products, but there will be a discount for club members.

Many thanks to Kevin Willis and Rob Loder in helping with the templates :clapping

I would be interested in a nearside one as a better solution than the patch job I did a year or so back on our cabrio

May we assume the lower edge extends to the original seam flange face, so that a partial sill panel isn't needed?

If so, a pair to resurrect mine, please, plus maybe a pair for the loft!
The vertical lip of the door aperture is a site prone to stone chips, so worth having that present.

Any thought on a complementary closure panel for the bottom of the outer arch, which also suffers
corrosion failure? If you're following up the lead I sent you, he does believe in those for the R3!

Happy to contribute to tooling funds too.

:tumbleweed :tumbleweed Disappointed

But by 11:30pm this has dropped out of the 'Active Topics' filter, for me at least.
Perhaps being where it is, this topic hasn't been catching folks' eyes? Would it
be an idea to flag it on FB?

We will probably have to make these as separate parts due to the size of the tooling

Here's one that needs help, along the lines being discussed, currently on eBay:

It's where a closure panel for the sill ends would come in useful, and common with the 4 & 5 door shells too.
