Mondeo takes a bow

I've never really been a Blue Oval fan, but I've always had some respect for the Mondeo.
I remember going to a launch event at Thruxton circuit in 1993 and had a chance to drive a couple of them round the circuit. Although I have to say that the high spot of that event was being driven around the circuit 'on two wheels' by a professional racing driver in a Fiesta RS1800
It wasn't enough to break my Rover Group loyalty, though, and I ended up ordering a Tomcat to replace my Metro GTi company car
And as of this week, there will be no more coming off the production line:

Funny how the car market has changed had a few Mondeo's MK1 1800, MK2 ST24 and a MK3 ST220 and worked on about every model every made would think
where great reliable cars but clutches on the MK1/2 and rear sub frame bushes on the MK3 where a pain in the back side

I wonder if there are any higher spec “run out” models? Might keep my eye out for one of the last ones in a few years!

The Grand Tour obituary is well worth a watch!
I've always liked Mondeo's-from the Mk1 onwards they've been well damped, fluid, supple drives so synonymous with Ford's Richard Parry-Jones chassis tuning ability. Similarly for the first Focus, even the base spec models were wonderful things to drive; an utter revelation compared to their predecessors!

I've just bought an 06 plate estate Mondeo and whilst its in good condition and works have to admit that I cannot stand it. I find it uncomfortable and sluggish - give me a Rover R8 any day but needed a estate that I could abuse. Its not that manoeuvrable being the only car that I cannot turn in our turning space, the seats I find hard and unforgiving and so far despite numerous loads already I have picked up nothing my Astra estates would not have handled in so much more style and comfort. Costs a fortune to tax plus it only does 28mph (2L) and is so sluggish thanks to the auto box I guess. Still it is a good job it was cheap low mileage and seems to be reliable so far.

I’ve had 2 mondo estates. Car magnets!
Both cars driven into while parked and wrote off.

Yeah that's right was a big job doing a clutch on them but not quite as bad as a Vectra B

When I ran an R8 as a daily, I was in a job that involved having hire cars every now and again. I drove all sorts but never liked any of them as much as my 214 SEi.
My daily these days is a Volvo V50 2.0 petrol and I have to say it’s a very pleasant car to drive.

I've loved the cortina, Sierra and mondeo. It is just a shame stuff like the BMW 3 series and C class merc have continued to sell hugely
