Rally day 2022

Last Sunday was Rally day.
Bright and shiny weather, but shivering in the morning, specially from the Pic de Nore (1211 m).

Around 80 mls amidst a fabulous countryside and several problems to solve: 4 pics to tell in which spot they were taken, lots of questions (don't remember how many though!) and a twisty route to follow with a sketchy road book.
Here the cabby in full action: I've added the road signs which were located just outside the frame, 20 km far from the well famed medieval city of Carcassonne.

Then the end of the journey, a well earned but rather late picnic well past 1 pm, in front of a magnificent landscape: not one, neither two nor three, but four castles all built on the same spot!

Beginning at 9:30 a.m., and the usual rules: 30 teams on the departure line, staggered start, no time limit (no speed competition), road book & enigmas.
Unfortunately some lost a part of the compelling route and one had a breakdown (fuel pump out of order in the 2CV).
In the end 20 only were ranked and here are the winners on the foreground left, I'm the one with the silly smile and close by my exceptional co-driver who made a brilliant job always telling me the right way to take ceaselessly switching from the road book to the IGN roadmap while I was throwing a glance to the GPS from time to time.
We were credited of 549 pts, ahead of the 2nd with 507 pts and the 20th... 75 pts.
Top of class like in 2020, because last year in 2021 we were ridiculous and failed to be even among the top five.
A good fun it was!

Indeed at last on the way back, it was hood down!

It'll be a pleasure.
I can add that there were some nice youngtimers & oldies in the competition: Triumph Dolomite Sprint, Lancia Beta, Renault 8 Gordini, Porsche (can't say which! they are too many!), Mazda MX5, Honda S2000, BMW Z3, DAF 66, Alfa Romeo Giulia, several motorbikes and some other modern trifles! :D

Just for example, the first page out of 4 of our road book. I guess same kind as in the UK, isn't it?

Image

"D nnn" for the road number and "Q" for question, as expected.
Departure from Michel & Colette's
Saissac: last fuel pump & no more
Become a forest trail
Go to La Galaube (hamlet)

And the like on three other pages.
And on some smallish country roads you couldn't cross, and no alternate space like in Scotland. Tricky...
