Any head gasket guides for the 420 t series engine?

Does anyone have a guide for changing the t series head gasket. There are abundant resources for the k series but nothing much for the t series.

If not could someone create one, it would need to cover recommended gasket type, what to do about the dowels?

This would be a great resource.

I believe it's a straightforward job when done by those in the know, unlike the damp liner K Series.

Craig & Nitro silver are both experts on T Series engines.

There is no dowel that is the K; head gaskets are out of stock presently at Rimmers and you need to i.d the right one by engine serial number, so to there are two differing version of head bolt, one re-useable, other single use. You need to peruse the Rimmer exploded parts list.

Possibly there is a Payen head set or possibly DMGRS will hold stock. You will have to do some research, if not doing the work yourself, you need to find a good ex MG/Rover tech! :)

Klinger Elring is the gasket to buy. E.g. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310117875544

Read the small print at the bottom of the listing as there is a difference in the two cam cover gasket types for 1995 models and this may be applicable to you.

The T16 overhaul manual is an integral part of Rover Service Manual AKM6987 and the 2nd and final edition can be found on the RAVE CD in the Coupe/Cabriolet/Tourer section.

The RAVE CD can be purchased new from: https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-RDL001

There may be an issue running the CD on a modern PC as it was compiled many, many years ago.

There's a solution that works here: https://www.rangerovers.net/threads/rav ... 10.346140/

Here's the text for completeness:

Those of you who are now running Windows 10 and have all the latest updates including, specifically, version 2004 and later may find that RAVE with the inbuilt Adobe Acrobat v4 PDF reader will no longer run. This is because Acrobat v4 is an old timer and Windows 10 - the new kid on the block - has consigned it to be incompatible. On startup you will see a message of "The portable document format is not running" or similar. Windows 10 instructions to then try and resolve the issue will not work!

Don't panic - follow these simple steps and you will have RAVE up and running and back to rude health in no time:

In the RAVE folder:

Right click on AcroRd32.exe in the Acorbat4\Reader folder. Select "Properties" and then "Compatibility". Under "Compatibility Mode" check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and from the drop down menu select "Windows 98 / Windows Me". Apply/OK all selections.

Right click on RAVE.exe in the appropriate folder. Select "Properties" and then "Compatibility". Under "Compatibility Mode" check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and from the drop down menu select "Windows 98 / Windows Me". Apply/OK selections.

That's it.

Thank you! Do these cars suffer from dropped liners like the k series?

Nope. If the engine is in good running order and all your repairs are with components purchased and fitted to specification, the T16 is bullet proof. As you've probably found out by now, a head gasket failure is pretty much always oil blowing out the side of the engine so you don't get coolant and oil mix critical failure like you do on the K - it'll blow oil out the side all day long as long as you keep it topped up. The only other thing to get absolutely right is the cam belt. See if you can get a Gates kit and do a good job tensioning it correctly. I'm assuming the engine isn't smoking, and compression and emissions are all okay.

Mat of Furious Driving fame on Youtube is about to change the head gasket on his 220 T series engined coupe. That may be worth a watch if your new to spannering! he does play to the camera a bit. Still reasonably competent and does know when to call in a professional!

I wouldn't recommend Draper tools though. :mouthshut

Hi, car is smoking I have a cheap tester slowing 130 compression on each cylinder. Not sure if this a bad tester but everything is even.
