2024 Practical Classics Restoration Show, NEC - 22nd~24th March

Post by GTiJohn »

We have a 3 car stand at this years show and we have exciting news for what'll be on show.

We'll have 2 project cars, both having been donated by their current owners and they follow on from the club’s successful renovation of an R8 214, Project Muriel, at last year’s Restoration Show.

The first is a Celadon Green Rover 45 iXL 16v manual 5-door, first registered in August 2000, with only 38,000 miles on the clock. It has been garaged all its life, has been carefully looked after, and is in good condition.

The second car is a very rare one indeed – a Targa Red 1987 Rover 216 Vitesse EFi. Currently, there are only 3 of these cars on-the-road in the UK. Hopefully this will be number 4.

BUD is a 1-owner-from-new car that’s covered 88,000 miles. The body is surprisingly solid and the paintwork in excellent condition, underneath the covering of grime. The interior has been very well protected by 3 sets of seat covers!

Both cars require a full service and other work dictated by their being off the road for the last 4 years, such as brakes and exhausts. Both also require their headlinings replacing. All this work will be done by club members, so if you'd like to get involved please let us know on this tread or via a PM.

We are looking for parts, some will be donated by Motaclan, but if you're able to donate any NOS service parts, especially for a K-series or an S-series engine, it would be appreciated. We would like to make BUD look as good as possible, so putting a refurbished set of alloy wheels (to go with the new tyres) on the car would be fantastic. Would anyone be able to supply these please? We'd happily swap them for the ones currently on the car! Luckily we have all the centre caps.

Both current owners asked if we could help them find good homes for their cars as they have been so well loved and looked after so far. The cars will be sold after the show with profits from the 45 going to Dementia UK, and BUD’s profits being split between Didcot Hospital and the Red Cross. If you'd like to be a new owner, please get in touch :cool

The third car is a Rover 400 needing a little work and we hope to have news of some newly made parts that'll help owners keep their cars on the road too.

Our third car is this rather lovely Rover 420 GSDi, which has been family owned since new by a club member. Having covered 180,000 and been off the road for the last eleven years, it’s now in need of some “titivation” to return it to the road.

Does any know the part number for the ignition coil for a Rover 216 S-series EFi engine, please?

Even better, does any one have a spare one they might be able to donate to our good cause, please? :angel

It might be a key element to getting our project Vitesse started...

The first member-supplied parts have arrived for BUD - many thanks to SteveB for a pair of front brake hoses :cool

Collecting some service and more brake parts at the weekend, including a coil !

BUD, the Vitesse, is still proving reluctant to start, even with a new coil.

A new rotor arm and distributor cap are next but in addition to no spark, there's no smell of unburnt fuel after cranking...

I'm not sure I've heard the fuel pump prime yet either, so I've got to work out if there's even pressure in the system.

Worst case is that the fuel pump is U/S. Don't suppose anyone has a spare, do you ?
