Alternator Removal

I’ve followed the Haynes manual and Rover manual on removing the alternator from my 1991 Rover 416 with a Honda engine but I’m struggling to get it to come away from the bracket
They both say remove the pivot bolt and lift the alternator upwards and out of the engine bay. I’ve removed the pivot bolt but the alternator seems happy to stay put despite pushing it backwards and forwards many times.
Do I just need to give it a healthy thump to release it from the bracket or I’m I missing a trick somewhere? I have the feeling this is the first time it’s probably been removed in 33 years :S

The workshop manual says to
Remove alternator adjustment bolt > Remove bolt, alternator link to water pump>
Remove nut, alternator pivot bolt> Pivot alternator and release belt from pulley >
Remove pivot bolt> Release alternator from mountain bracket.

Hope that helps

Yep same instructions I’ve got here.
Looks like WD40 and a bit of gentle persuasion with a crowbar etc. Just don’t want to damage it as it’s working ok but I just wanted to give the brushes a check and clean it up whilst I’ve got other kit removed in this area.
Having another problem undoing the union from the steering rack hose on the power steering pump as well.(more WD40😁)
Testament to the quality of the products that neither of these has been removed/undone since the car was put together 33 years ago, so I suppose I shouldn’t grumble. (Except when I’m under the bonnet :laughing2 )

Provided the adjustment bolt and the pivot bolt have been removed and the alternator belt of course, you probably will need to give it some welly. I'd tether the alternator with some wire or strong string so it doesn't fall to the ground when it frees. Dribble some easing oil at either end of the through bolt channel and keep rocking it back-and-forth.You could try driving a wooden wedge in between the alternator and mounting bracket. It will come, just persevere.

That sounds like a plan, just didn’t want to get rough with it in case I was missing something.
Thanks

Managed to remove it finally with movement backwards and forwards and a gentle nudge with the wooden handle of a hammer and it came out easily. Having removed the bracket that holds it to the engine block there is a bush in one of the holes in the bracket. When I was looking at it when the alternator was in situ I was wondering if this bush located in the alternator as well and this was what was stopping me removing the alternator. Clearly it wasn’t but didn’t want to force it.
All out now. Lots of white powdery build up around the multiplug plug and socket that needs cleaning up and I’ll now be able to see if it is worth replacing the brushes.
Thanks for all the comments.
