rear disc pads on a 95 416 tourer

hi all. still around!!
I have just bought a set of (well apparently are) rear disc pads for my 416 tourer.
I had a major exercise getting the staff to understand that mine had 4 wheel disc brakes with ABS .......not the disc/drum combination we see more of over here.
The disc pads are like REALLY small!!
Is this correct?
I am having a go at putting them in on the weekend.

The pads aren't very large I have to admit, but nothing unusually tiny. I guess it depends on what you are used to!

oh dear....I don't like the sound of the "good luck winding the piston back in".
Are they usually a S.O.B to do?!!

you need the proper tool for them, they do sieze up so i had to go to a garage to free them off but they could only do one side the other would not screw back in so i had to buy a new one because rear discs are rare, no scrap yards have them in my area. it cost about £60.

They aren't that bad and they aren't particularly rare either as the same rear brake setup was used on the 200 hatch, coupe and the 400 too, the more powerful ones coming with rear discs.
You just have to find something suitable to wind the piston back in, it doesn't push straight in, it needs to be rotated as it goes in (something to do with the self adjustiong mechanism for the handbrake I think).

Theres a very good tutorial on rovertech about freeing off the rear brakes and sorting the handbrake aswell if your signed up.

got everything in and on ok, just as well my mate was here as it took two of us to get the pistons back in, Haynes manual was correct in saying that they needed to be clockwise screwed back in.... it did no say that they are rather tight though!! Once they got moving they went back in ok. We ended up using a bracket off the bumper from a SD1 to screw the piston back in!! Now have to adjust my handrake cable as it has been coming up a long way for quite some time now and I use it alot, even at traffic lights......dont like resting my foot on the brake pedal!! Ex bus driver training!!

Glad it went ok. Having something that fits snugly in the pistons to wind them back in makes the job 100 times easier.
