Rev counter dead

Ever since i bought this motor the rev counter hasnt worked. Its probably something really simple n this post will make me look stupid but nevermind, stupid suits me! I swapped out the module whilst doing my white dials (yeah im that kinda guy *laughs*) but my technical no how is limited so after that iv not a scooby wot to try next! Anybody help please?

If its a Honda engine it's probably the distributor on its way out, common fault I'm afraid, if you suddenly find your car refuses to start too you can put wages on it!

What engine is it?

If its the 218/418 derv then the wire has probably become disconnected form the alternator (or the alt is on its way out).

Eek! Not more expensive problems! I only just swapped out the gearbox grr! Yeah its the honda engine.. 416gsi sohc ..And yes just the other day it failed to start :? It turned over happily but i got no ignition.. Switched it off for a min then tried agen n it worked. Does that sound like the dizzy then?

Afraid so, friends 416 and his 216 both went same way, refused to start but then would go if left a while. Be worth keeping an eye out for a replacement sooner rather than later, even if you just keep it in the boot until current one packs up completely!
