Cabriolet Rear Window Demister

The rear demister fan on my recently acquired cabriolet doesn't work. The indicator light in the switch doesn't work either, which prompted me to check the fuse. When I checked in the fuse box I found that the relay for the heated rear window is missing. Now this may seem a stupid question, but with the cabriolet having a motor driven fan rather than a heating element, does it still utilise the relay? Any input from cabrio owners greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The fan isn't heated so it doesn't need as much power as the proper heated rear window so I suspect it doesn't use the relay.

I'll check my fusebox for you later, the relay is built into the box right?
Actually just checked the wiring manual (
PDF Copy available to download here - 55MB file size!)
Extract for demister / heater rear window here:
Looks like it shares the same system (Fuse 23 is the blower / heated rear window), can't see from the manual the location of the relay for it though, you sure its attached to the fuse box?
Fault finding extract here:
By the way the demister is so pathetically under powered it takes ages to demist, i find heater on full and window open a little whilst moving much more efficient!

Many thanks for posting the details. The relay position is in the main fuse box, top right (ish) as you look at it. The wiring diagram and the fault finding guide both refer to a relay so I think it should have one. The reason I wanted to be certain is that they're around £30 from Rimmers so this may be why the previous owner never replaced it.
I take your point about the fan's effectiveness (or lack of) but it's nice to have a car where everything works.

Okay i've just taken a look on Rimmers. I think that part is the 'timer' referred to in the manual, so if that is missing its likely to be the cause (assuming it was'nt removed because of another fault).
You can get them new on ebay for £10 (plus £2 delivery!)

Or find a breaker, it looks like that part is a standard fit across the Rover 200 / 400 / MG TF / ZR / ZS covering both the early R8 and later R200 range so should be plenty around.
