Remote locking

Post by RMS1974 »

Good evening, a smallish problem has raised its head.

When I bought the car it had 2 sets of original keys and an original (I believe) plipper, unfortunately there were no rubber buttons over the switch innards!

I have now made some buttons utilising a cheap case from eBay.

The situation is, the central locking works on both doors when opening & closing using the key in the drivers door, & by inside using the door knob.

When outside the car, the plipper glows red & green with the appropriate button, but only triggers the passenger door, opening & closing.

I've had a look on the forum and the "Central Locking Unit" is mentioned a few times, is this likely to be the case? and if so where does it hide please.

The plipper is a Valeo.

Thanks

It sounds as if you have the infrared immobiliser system/fob. Best person to talk to is 220GSiTurbo who is otherwise known as Paul Vincent. The later fobs don't have any LED's.

There is a modification available via the Coupe Club to upgrade the alarm to the later system.

Yes - we have developed a plug an play kit to replace the Infrared system on earlier cars.

Details are here:- https://www.rover200.org.uk/forums/topi ... 9&start=10

We will have a few of the kits on the Rover Coupe Owners Club stand at the Pride of Longbridge next week

Again, thanks for the reply and link.

It's something for the future methinks, I was hoping that the solution would be something within the door area that could be repaired, or swapped out at a relatively small cost.

I can live with locking using the door for the foreseeable, as it secures the car and the alarm functions.

Cost's wise I have to factor in a cambelt & water pump change in the next month as it is long overdue.
