R8 to feature in Auto Express again!

Post by GTiJohn »

The R8 200 featured on the very first cover of Auto Express 35 years ago

We have helped them with a car for a comparison drive, which will feature in their Sept 27th edition. Member Adam Ellender, took his white 214, George, along for a comparison drive with their current Car of the Year, the Hyundai Kona.

They did a great job with the camouflage at the proving ground (if that's where the long range zoom was used).

A lesson in how to make an R8 look like an Escort Mk. 4 :laughing2

Interesting that on the Escort Mk. 5 they offered duo-tone on the early cars, so it was actually Ford that was envious of Rover's styling choices, not the other way round.

Could have been even closer if they'd used something a bit higher than the base model, considering the Hybrid Kona is hardly the cheapest model in the range - a 216GSi perhaps!

They don't grow on trees nowadays :laughing2

We managed to find a white G-reg 5-door, in Kent, with an owner willing to spend a day doing this, at relatively short notice.

Pretty good I'd say :angel

Had a sneaky read in the newsagent today. Certainly a positive review!

Adam’s car presents marvellously.
