Hi All hope you can help
I have recently replaced the tailgate wiring loom on my rover 216. It went succesfully thanks to the many guides on here, and my top brake light and rear windscreen wiper are working fine.
Unfortunately the Rear Heated Window does not seem to be working. It was still working intermittently on the old wiring loom, but that wiring loom was badly damaged and may have caused some shorts.
The light on the rear heated window button does not light up, but you can hear a click down by the fuse board / relay when you press the button.
What course of action can I take to try to diagnose the problem from where I am at the moment ??
Also on a second question, shoved inside the tailgate by the wiper motor was, what looked like, a white car washing sponge inside a clear plastic bag, literally a sponge in plastic. I can't tell if it looks like it's supposed to be in there or if someone has shoved it in there for some reason? any ideas on that too?
many thanks

Re: Advice on Rear Heated Window not Working
First check is to see if there’s power to the heated rear window connector with the switch on - you’ll need a multimeter or a test light.
The sponge sounds…weird, any pictures of it? It could be to stop the trim panel vibrating & rattling.

Hi thanks for your reply!
I was being dense and did not check the fuse! The fuse was burnt out so I will replace that and hopefully that will fix this issue.
For anyone interested it is Fuse 23 if you look up the diagram, and it is a 25 amp fuse. Should have checked the obvious first but it slipped my mind.
Yes apparently the sponge in a bag is just noise / vibration deadening!
It's still sat on my desk and needs to go back in the tailgate!

If the fuse has blown, you have to ask why…I reckon it will have been a short due to the wiring harness breaking!

Re: Advice on Rear Heated Window not Working
As Iain has stated, a multimeter is a good piece of test kit. Hopefully one with crocodile clips on the ends of the leads. Set the meter to the 20V range, clip one lead on one window contact on one side and one lead on the other side (if they reach). You should obviously see 12v or thereabouts (or -12V if the multimeter leads are the wrong way round!) when the heated screen is switched on.evan91 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 1:12 pm Hi All hope you can help
