I have removed the sounders from two Pektron cars that gave the same issue as your car has. One showed signs of moisture ingress, the other seemed ok.
I am inclined to think that the Pektron unit has something to do with the problem, as I also have an older 25 with the Lucas 5AS system and the same sounder. That car has never had any problems with false alarms.

Mk1 sounder is better build then mk2 sounder which was mounted with Pektron system. It is known issue by now.
