H Plate 5dr gti - Honda Dohc engine - pre cat

Post by abuthebes »

Hi

Engine management light remains on once started and its running rich. Engine has been rebuilt.

My mechanic suggests changing o2 sensor and temperature sensor first. He says he doesn't trust the ECU blinking counts.

My question is, is there a o2 sensor on this car?
If so where can I get one and whats the part number please? Can it be plugged in to a diagnostic kit.?

I was trying to sell it, but I'm now almost there with getting it back on the road.

Many Thanks
Tar

There might be one on a pre-cat car. If there is it's down here...

You might have to take the manifold heatshield off to get at it and it may disintegrate when you do.

The only diagnostics are the flash codes on the ECU.

The Rover part number you're after is FDU1952 - Sensor-oxygen multi point injection There's some info about the original Honda part number here - https://srotas24.co.uk/product/s25958299040/

None of Rimmer Bros, DMGRS and MGLRParts seems to have stock but you should try AE Wilcox.

They are available on ebay but from Lithuania :)

I've found the Honda flash-code to be pretty reliable tbh.

I’d put more money on the timing at the distributor being out first.

My H plate GTi Reg Oct 1990 with Honda DOHC does not have an O2 sensor in the original exhaust manifold.
Maybe a late H plate did?..

Hi, I know exactly what is going on with respect to your engine running rich, and your mechanic suggesting you change the o2 sensor.
pre-cat cars do not have o2 sensors, nor do they have catalysts connected to the front of the exhaust pipe.
your mechanic does not know that your car is pre-cat, otherwise he would not have suggested changing the o2 sensor.
he also does not know that Emissions Limits are different for pre-cat cars: CO limit is 3.5% and HC limit is 1200ppm.
and also that prior to testing the emissions on a pre-cat car,
he needs to set the Emissions Tester to test for a 'Non-catalyst equipped vehicle'.

I have a G plate Rover 216 GSI with Honda SOHC engine pre-cat.

Attempting to fit an o2 sensor onto your car is absurd, because the Engine ECU does not cater for it, so it will not work.
There is no such thing as a diagnostic kit for an o2 sensor.

Would you like me to tell you the procedure for obtaining the ECU Flash Codes ?
