Boot lid required!

Post by Stan Thomas »

Morning all,

Further to my posing on the "lounge" page when some Polish numpty in a 38 tonne artic ran into the back of my 420GSi from behind in an M6 motorway congestion convoy, I need to start putting out the feelers to obtain either preferably a new or a good secondhand one. First question then is my boot lid (hopefully) the same as a 45.................?

I work at a small mg rover specialist, I can supply and fit a good used tailgate for your 400. If we dont have one the same colour, we can also paint. My works is located in Cradley heath, about 10 miles from you.
I can send a PM with my number and the unit address if you want.
My Rovers to date:
1994 Rover 220GSI in Tahiti blue (On the road)
2002 MG ZR 105 in Solar red (On loan)

My 420GSi is a saloon - and I took the part number from Rimmer Bros pictures!

However, there is more damage than just a need to replace the boot lid.

I have just broke a low mileage 416 saloon with front end damage so I have everything from the rear end.

They say you never stop learning!

Bad news is My 420 has a different boot lid to the "basic" 400/45 insofar as it accommodates a sunken number plate recess with a chrome surround which makes them even more rare - good news is I've located a new one!!

Been hiking the car around for quotes - which have ranged from IsoponSid who gives a 20% discount if you provide the newspaper for masking-up, to a chap who quoted his mobile number with a £ sign in front.

Then I found a very good company and four of them inspected the car, taking out all the trim before replacing it, ad they even suggested how I could reduce the cost if I could source the parts, so I'm awaiting their quote.

Thank you all for your advice and offers, and to paraphrase Sir Bernard Lovell - "watch this space"!

Regards,

Stan, Stan, the pedestrian man.
