One day, I went to check the oil. As I slid the (plastic) dipstick out, there was a loud crack. “Hmm, wonder what that was” I thought.
Then I found out. The stick was about three inches short - the end had snapped off!
I thought I’d better retrieve it in case it caused any problems and ended up having to take the sump off to get to it!
Perhaps being permanently immersed in oil had made the plastic become brittle, so I replaced it with the all steel one from my previous (earlier) car. On Rimmers website it looks like the original all plastic stick has been ‘superseded’ by one which appears to be metal with a plastic end.
Wonder why they changed it?
