Front Brake Hose for 1990 214

Post by g259fsg »

Does anyone know about the interchangeability of the front brake hose on Rover 200 models. The original part for my 1990 214 is SHB10001EVA. Quinton Hazel have a similar part GBH251 or 859. I've also seen BFH4638. These also fit Honda Concerto. Some sources suggest SHB100760 which is specified for 1996 onwards. It looks like the same part, but wonder if others know whether this is true. Such as https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371546911428 ... %3A2332490 . Last time I fitted TRW PHD254

Generally speaking, brake hoses tend to have "standard" threads - so all you really need to do is concentrate on getting replacements by their length.

Rather than just look for Rover O.E. parts, approach general motor factors such as Europarts etc. who will list them by application across a wide variety of makes.

Regards to all.

Thanks, Stan. I agree, most modern brake hoses use M10 fittings so they are likely to be compatible (3/8" UNF for old stuff). The main thing I could see about these front brake hose alternatives is the fixings. For example the hoses on my car have a fixing roughly halfway along the hose which bolts to the front suspension for support. It looks like SHB100760 has this, however the fitting at the opposite end to the banjo appears to be different on the later cars, presumably attaches to the chassis in a different way https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371546911428 ... QG8TXPMF3Z . SHB 000760 has two mid hose fixings and a different end mounting. https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/products/rover- ... a961&_ss=r

Looks like I do need to go for the earlier pattern SHB10001EVA or QH GBH251 etc.

Check my response in your other thread regarding the compatibility and relevant supersession.

Thanks. Apologies for this thread appearing twice, not sure why, but I must have accidently submitted it twice. The slightly later one is more complete.

You wrote "SHB10001EVA is the direct supersession from GBH251, so looks like that part number is the one to buy. 859 doesn’t supersede to anything." The other number given for GBH251 is GHP859.

The other option is to go for this stainless steel hose https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204295793598 ... R-754uXJZA. It looks to have the correct chassis end for the early 200, but I'd need to improvise a bit to support the hose at the centre using the rubber grommet.

Had another look at this and think I might try the stainless steel hoses. Seem to have some advantages plus they are made to order rather than being NOS. I'll report back on this thread in due course and let you know how I get on.

Cheers,

Might you be able to transfer the intermediate bracket from the old to the plain new ones?

Maybe not as the fixing looks like it's crimped onto the hose, or there is possibly another joint in there. The stainless steel hose appear to be a continuous hose with a grommet on the hose and a couple of hose clips to fix it in position. I was thinking of fabricating a bit of metal to fit round the grommet which I could then bolt to the fixing hole on the suspension. I'll have to work out details when I see the hose.

Forgot to mention. ......................as I fear bespoke stainless hoses might be expensive.

Have you tried Wilcox & Son for your hoses? Ask for John Wilcox as he is very obliging to look up chassis and part numbers for you - and its suprising what they still have in stock. Their telephone number is 01454 294213.

Hope you get fixed up.
