Hi everyone.
Finally got my roof sorted at a bodyshop I trust - the guy who did the work used to be at Leeds City College and taught me to weld and spray paint! Windscreen out job and then they decided to avoid welding a new section in for fear of warping the roof. They used that acid stuff repeatedly to get road of and pitted rust, cleared it back, used that malleable metal stuff in the small holes and then painted the whole roof. Very pleased but it shows up the rest of the car a bit!! The roof liner I recovered is back in. Filled all cavities with wax before putting it back in.

I’ve finally got around to one of the little irritations with my car - a previous owner wood-screwed the rear driver door trim panel on, and the material was flapping off with the scrim foam turned to powder.

The door trim panel came off with only one broken clip after a tricky poke around to remove the winder handle circlip. No rust in the door which is good news and it’s now full of Dynax s50 in case

To get the panel off you remove the winder handle, remove the trim behind the door release handle (1 screw), and the little “quarterlight” triangle plastic trim piece. There are 2 screws on the outer edge of the trim, one inside the well of the pull handle, and the one at the top of the pull handle. The rest of the action is to pull the trim panel off at the base and sides, and lift the panel up and off. You then separate the handle from the door card which is 4 screws and a metal bracket.
Took an epic amount of solvent and scraping to get the aluminium panel clean of it’s glue and foam powder. I had to dremmel off the white clips which hold the trim panel to the door card to release the panel.
Bare metal:

Scrim foam glued on

Material vacuumed and re-glued on

Whole assembly glued on and handle refitted:

Really pleased with the result as you cannot see the former screw holes in the material and it’s nicely padded now.

Thanks Jeremy. Hoping to get around to a few other jobs this Christmas, as well as trying to get my Montego in a working state

Yes Paul, at this time of year we need some wins with out cars. I certainly didn’t after 3 hours being unsuccessful in lighting up my temperature gauge needle! I need to sort some bodywork (too cold for the next 3months), a blowing exhaust that isn’t actually blowing when I check it by trying to put a gloved hand over the tailpipe (baffling this one - sounds like it’s leaking on mid-throttle at low revs under load), and find some 7mm wide 20mm screws for the top of 2 of my grab handles which are loose. I’d like to try resilvering 4 of my heated window bars. Minor stuff really.
What is on your list Paul?

I need to do an oil and filter change, get an exhaust manifold bolt re threaded and installed, and change a sensor. I may then be putting it on the market! But I’m in two minds whether to sell it.MatthewL wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2024 5:33 pm Yes Paul, at this time of year we need some wins with out cars. Have you got more than one Rover 200? I struggle a bit with my 5 old cars giving them attention and working out the use case for each. Just doing some minor work on my Montego at the moment whilst I work out the cause of its poor running, but luckily my Rover is my daily driver so I can justify keeping it!
