A Cautionary Tale
A Cautionary Tale
Merry Christmas everybody!
My front indicator bulb blew today and whilst changing it I discovered my GSi had lost almost two pints of coolant due to a weep on the rad.
I would advise everyone to check their engines, especially if you have a K series engine like mine. Coolant can vanish without you even realising it!

Here's a "how to" for retrofitting the coolant level sensor that came as standard on later K series engined cars:

I've now replaced the old rad with a shiny new one, the hardest part was trying to remove and refit the rad out of the engine bay with the fan still attached!
On a side issue, does anyone know if all the hoses, both metal and rubber, are avaliable for the K series engined cars? Rimmers seem to be a bit on the thin side for replacement hoses as were my local parts factors.

On the rally car, we picked up a £3 float switch from eBay and fitted that, connected through to the ABS warning light (as ours is a non-ABS car).
The longest job was working out which wires on the back of the instrument cluster connected to what. The numbers shown in the Haynes book don't seem to collate at all with what is on the back of the cluster :?
Still, once sorted, as has been said it is very reassuring.
And now, in our case "ABS" stands for "Another Bl@@dy Saturday" to change the engine

I replaced all the rubber hoses on my K series VVC last year, got them from an Xpart dealer. His words to me were that its likely all K series parts will be supplied as long as there is some demand, which there should be for quite a long time yet.The R8 Man wrote:I've now replaced the old rad with a shiny new one, the hardest part was trying to remove and refit the rad out of the engine bay with the fan still attached!
