Another weekly update:

Started making up the brake lines on the car with some copper/nickel lines.

I was going to go down the braided route (like a proper RS car) but it came down to money & time, as I really want to get this car finished during summer. I definitely do want to go down the braided route so this will give me something to 'upgrade' further down the line.

Image

First task was to make a mount for the Wilwood bias valve and also get my T-piece sections in place first, then measure/cut /flare the pipework to suit.

Image

Image

Rubber grommets are in place and a few clips holding the lines. Still a couple more clips to add, but that's the majority of the brake system finished.

Next task is to get the chassis loom back in the car and insulated :scared

So it’s update time and another milestone reached.

Time to recommission the engine and get it back in the car.

First off was the fitting of a new rear crank seal and a bead of sealant round the sump to prevent any future leaks.

Image

B&B clutch kits are definately worth the money, the packaging and quality of the kit is very reassuring.

Image

Gearbox was also degreased ready for refitting.

Image

Flywheel fitted with brand new bolts, lock tight, clutch aligned and then bolted down into place.

Image

And then with thanks to Jody and his sons, we all got the gearbox mounted and lifted into the car 8)

Image

Image

Started reconnecting the engine ancillaries - thermostat housing, water pump housing with new pump, PAS & alternator.

Image

Image

And then finally treated the car to some genuine Brown and Gammon adjustable top mounts.

Thanks for looking.

I'm aiming for around July time, so 3 more months and it should be painted and hopefully looking the business. I'm keeping the MNX paintwork as its main colour, then bumpers and lower half of the car painted charcoal grey, Similar to this:

I would then like to try get it booked in at some fairly local tracks for a shake down (curborough/Donnington etc)

I will speak to you closer the time John, but it would be good to get some club stickers on the car.

Update time

Lots of small jobs currently being done that are taking time to complete - this is the important part, making sure they are done properly which is something I feel this car lacked by the previous builder.

One of the ‘big’ jobs I have managed to do was refit doors/wings which made it look a little more like a car again :D

Update time,

Body harness has been routed and finally fixed/insulated on the bulkhead, so it was time to refit the heater matrix and then dashboard.

Image

Not 100% back together but it's fixed in position so I can finish tidying up wiring and reconnect everything else.

Sourced a Roversport radiator which was sent away and refurbished with a new core.

New brake pads fitted ready for the system to be filled with new fluid - EBC Yellow

Assembled the B&G top mounts onto the GAZ Coilovers:

Image

Then it was time to cut away the suspension turret to allow for all the camber adjustment available from the top mounts - No going back now! :o

Image

Fitted a standard MNX rear bumper. I won't be keeping the bumpers silver but I just wanted it to look normal again for the time being :D

Image

Few more bits going back in the engine bay (pipes, hoses, ECU etc) along with the exhaust manifold and turbo system.

Image

Wheels have been sent away for refurbishment with City Coaters here in Birmingham, so the car is currently sitting on axle stands.

Engine bay shot from a different angle! Spark plug cover sourced from Tom on the ropes 8)

Small update - alignment day!

Now the radiator is back it was time to test fit the cooling system but first, here is a flash back of the aftermarket setup that came on the car. I'm sure I've saved weight going back to OEM

Image
Image

Also not forgetting the new slam panel that was fitted over Christmas.

Image

Sourced some original frames/fans which were stripped down, cleaned and painted ready for assembly. -I'm not sure yet if I'm going to run the additional fan.

Image

Image

Alignment perfect 8) Like I say nothing is bolted down just yet because this was just a test fit. I want to get the downpipes installed first whilst Ive got all that space to play with.

Image

Also fitted the GRP bonnet whilst there. Not sure what I'm doing yet in terms of securing it down. Either the classic Aerocatch pins or I might go with the more modern push button clips.
