Website / Forum Refresh - Friday 1st July

Post by Colonel Mustard »

I will be updating the website and forum next Friday, 1st July so consequently there will be some disruption. Please note the forum will be off line from early on Friday morning and for most of the day.

The website and forum are also being moved to a different web host, so the new domain name server details will have to be propogated across the world-wide-web. This can take anything up to a few days - although the website and forum shouldn't be offline for that long (hopefully!). You may notice that you get redirected to a different url during the propogation period, but your username and password will remain the same throughout, regardless of which url you are directed to.

You should still be able to access the website throughout, but it will change to the new look at some point during Friday morning:

I will put any announcements concerning the forum migration on the website. You may also contact me via the website "Contact Us" by selecting "Webmaster/Forum" if you have any issues - but please bear in mind you are unlikely to get a swift response!

As well as a new look website, you will find the forum is integrated into the main website. But probably the best news is that you will be able to upload photos directly to the forum (within certain limitations, obviously :wink3 ). Instructions on how to do this will be made available on the forum at the time.

Apologies in advance for any inconvenience. Thank you for your patience and understanding. :angel

The forum has been transferred to the new web host and you should be able to log in using your existing username and password. If you have any difficulties logging in or accessing any part of the forum please contact me by using the CONTACT US feature in the menu above (and select Webmaster / Forum).

You may have been re-directed to rovergroup.org.uk whilst the normal urls are propogated across the world-wide-web, but this should revert to normal after a few days.

Thanks for your patience.

Please see the post on how to post photos to the forum for an update on uploading photos directly: https://rovergroup.org.uk/forums/topic?p=97147#p97147

I was thinking everything was going too smoothly.... :oops

An issue with synchronisation between the website and the forum has arisen that requires further investigation. In the interim I have had to reinstate the use of the temporary URL rovergroup.org.uk to overcome this, until I have chance to sort this out. If you log into the forum you will notice change of URL from rover 200.org.uk to rovergroup.org.uk.

This change of URL also applies if you use the Contact Us feature, for an unrelated reason.

You can carry on using the forum at the moment, but I may need to take it off air again at some point (but I will give you advance notice).

According to the software developer, the issue we have been having when the temporary domain name rovergroup.org.uk was removed is down to cookies stored in your browser. I, and several others, have tested this and it does seem to resolve the problem. Basically, all existing cookies associated with rovergroup.org.uk and rover200.org.uk need to be deleted from your browser.

I will remove the URL rovergroup.org.uk at around 10.00am BST tomorrow morning (Thursday 14th July). Please make sure you are logged out of the forum by this time, otherwise you will be logged out remotely and any posts or PMs you are working on will be lost.

If you have problems logging in, seeing or using any of the forums you normally can after this time then please follow the detailed instructions for deleting the cookies that can be found here: forum-guidance. This guidance will also be shown to anyone who visits rovergroup.org.uk for a few days from tomorrow.

If you still get problems after following the guidance, please let me know via the CONTACT US menu option, selecting Webmaster/Forum.
