Power steering racks, a favourite advisory I 've seen a number of times is an advisory for 'slight play in inner rack bushes', also the pipes and the main suspension subframe, although most cars that have survived this long have had it replaced.

According to Rimmer Bros awful parts list, the same rack was fitted to all R8's with power steering.

be aware, as i found out today, rover coupe turbo back boxes and NLA at all 7 of my exhaust suppliers. So its stainless or no zorst.

Early fuel filters for MPI K Series; MWJN101520EVA LE7 FILTER ASSEMBLY these are XPART stock numbers for cross reference purposes. See my thread on the filter.

The latter ones look identical until you try to fit the pipe unions...

*If you have one of the later 1.4k series with the plastic inlet manifold you will need a different petrol filter, the pipe unions differ*

One thing doesn't kill the early r8 are rust like they are way more rust proofed than a 90s merc or Bmw

A dead ECU will kill your car for sure, that is why I have three!
This is the correct part No for a 1990 216GTi, Manual 5 speed, with no cat fitted.

I guess that a cloned box may be possible? But will need to be mapped to one of several R8 ECU's out there.
Has anyone done that? Sounds costly too.

I now have a PAS gear, courtesy of Quentin, that will be taken over to a steering gear remanufacturer in Birmingham in Jan to extract the internal PCF (Positive Centre Feel) C-spring for examination with a view, to developing a repair operation for our, and Rover 800, gears.




It is this spring that breaks after repeated cyclical steering loads, causing the steering to be ludicrously light.

Developing a process for remaking the spring won't be an easy task, as there was intensive work to get it to this point, but that was 35 years ago and maybe material technology and heat-treatment processing have move on since then

With this part we have a good example of the material micro-structure required to aim for.

I was looking for a similar unit for my 416 GTi Auto Part No 37820-PP5-E51 earlier in the year. I spoke to the guys at “The Best of British” , who didn’t have one, and they directed me to John at All Car Electronics
Who has an ebay account https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/allcar2010.
He was really helpful and found me one, he even found another one tucked away.
Not all his stock is on ebay.
So if people are looking for a spare ECU it might be worth talking to him and at least getting a spare which can be used whilst the other one is repaired.
The company looks like they might repair units but I have no experience of them.

ive never had problems with fuel relay though i did resolder all joints in mine years ago,the dizzy issue i solved by ordering one new from usa at a cost of $55 delivered dseries.org is honda based site but these cars with same systems as uk cars were built in far greater numbers over there and parts are still to be found using part numbers on units and googled,

D16 Exhaust Manifold Assy


Most components are NLA including the manifold to downpipe studs also the SOHC gasket.

I have a cracked D16 Twin Cam DOHC (1990) exhaust manifold that I think a skilled welder could repair (it's cast iron I think)
Please let me know if anyone wants it, you can see the crack at the junction of the two pipes.
For my car, I got a new one from Rimmers in 2003, it might have been the last as it was reduced in a sale.
