i am currently looking for an elise s2 1.8vvc k-series engine/loom/ecu. anyone know of any implications what might be involved in fitting that into a 214 wedge? as i have been told it'll be a doddle, and am sure it will be.

Why not just get one from a vi or another 1.8vvc car. They'll be a lot easier to find thasn an elise one will aqnd more likely to fit too.

indeed.. but i have also been told that the internals of an s2 engine are somewhat lightened and balanced compared to that of a rover engine... plus the whole 'lotus engine in me rover' will just be don

For the cost of an elise engine I bet you could puchase a VVC strip it. lighten the crank, flywheel, put emerald on it and still have change over.

You wouldn't really lighten the crank, you'd get the flywheel lightened (or buy a premade lighter one). The cranks are very well balanced from the factory so I wouldn't fret too much about that.
Emerald is aftermarket engine management. Used to get the best out of mods to an engine. At the last rolling road day I went to there was a metro there with a 1.8 K series that put out 174bhp.
That was running emerald engine management and throttle bodies. I don't think it was using VVC either, I think it was on solid cams to give better performance.

sounds tasty, hows much is that emerald gear about then? its just that elise engines are readily available for around £700 on ebay.. as are vvc's out of mgf's tf's etc. but in reply to skatiechik.. a lightened n balanced crank is £1400 from moto-build.. it wouldnt be cheaper to buy a vvc n strip it etc *laughs*
