I had a phone call from them about 7 pm on Friday night and again on Saturday afternoon! It seems that the guy running the place is a Rover Fan! :clapping
It would seem that my Rover 95 model year has the most unreliable ECU [ also the most expensive! ] being the MEMS 1.9. However he knows some one in the Midlands who repairs them and as they do not have another one of that particular part number on site, are going to post mine of to be checked out and get a quote for repair!

So not the usual standard of dealer service then! :D
The guy certainly sounds as if he genuinely cares about these cars so that makes a pleasant change from the usual insults when ever I say I like Rovers :cursing

Well, they used to be a Rover dealership. Occasionally they sell off NoS items on eBay, and when I'm looking for R8 parts on the XPart site, Wilcox's name frequently comes up in the list of retailers still holding stock of the part.

Interestingly my own 1992 214GSi's future is hanging by a thread after two breakdowns in one week and subsequent month at a XPart specialist trying to find out what's wrong (including changing over a number of parts on the green 1992 214SLi which used to be mine..). This week they should get hold of someone with 'some more equipment' which I hope means Testbook to diagnose it properly (they have T4 but this car is too early).

It starts, runs with throttle open but stalls when revs drop back to idle. They can get fuel OK.

It has done 177K miles and I'm wondering whether it's just had enough. :sad

The 'extra equipment' turned out not to include diagnostics for such an early 214....

Back to mechanical knowledge - last chance is exhaust system at front RE potential blockage.

They've sent my ECU off to Brum to be tested so nothing to report yet. If you have a good un' it's best to keep it I think assuming it can be fixed that is.

This is some thing for the club to consider for the future.

Any news? Was it the ECU after all?

It's still up in the air at the moment, so don't wish to comment for the time being; until I can report back with some answers. It's not going to be a cheap fix, I think it's fair to say. :o

Right she is now fixed and I'm going to pick her up on Monday morning from Wilcox.

It appeared that the ECU was a fault, however it was sent away and returned with a clean bill of health after being tested. The next suspect was the fuel pump after everything else had been worked through. Still no joy however so the ECU was sent off again. This time Testbook wouldn't talk to the ECU on it's return; after a tele conference between myself and John at Wilcox we decided to get a refurbished unit from X-Part. That arrived this am and has been fitted and now the car runs! :D

John and his team at Wilcox are all :angel

Considereing that there is a recovery charge to recover the car to them, the bill isn't really to bad :*laughing my fat rear end off*

I'm getting a lift out there on Monday to pick the car up. Must remember my favourite credit card though! :wink3
