With rain forecast most days next week I would be surprised if cars are allowed onto Cofton Park next weekend. I am wondering therefore if we should have a back-up plan such as meeting at the Bus Museum?

Yes the forecast doesn’t look good at all in the next 7 days, but a week is a long time in weather. Fingers crossed all will be good. Where is the bus museum, and does it have good parking (bearing in mind a lot of other clubs might have the same idea if we are rained off).

It is at Wythall, only about15 minutes drive from Longbridge, off J3 on the M42. Our club used it for AGM in 2021. Car park is a good size. The BRM club used it to meet last time we couldn't get onto Cofton Park. It is just an idea as there has been a few occasions when ground condition has meant cars were not allowed in park and it causes chaos, nobody seems to know what to do, most park on road outside but some go elsewhere. I thought it might be an idea if as a club we were organised in advance, perhaps not just for this year but as a permanent contingency if we advised members what to do if we are faced with either prior notice of non-access to the park or if we get there and find we can't get in.

Yes it's certainly a good shout to have a plan B. I'm up for meeting there if Cofton Park is rained off!

How about everyone else?

Wythall sounds like a good idea, but if the wider MGR community gets to hear about it, it will be chaos!

Personally, if Longbridge is cancelled I will be heading down to Gaydon, as they will be hosting a Classic Car Loan Project 'handover day'. As I already have a car 'in' the Project, it will be good to catch up with some of the other owners and drivers.

Another suggestion for people coming down from the North would be to call in at the Great British Car Journey at Ambergate, Derbyshire. As with Wythall, parking is ok, but clearly not on the same scale as Cofton Park or Gaydon.

Another possibility is the National Motorcycle Museum adjacent to junction 6 of the M42.

However, everybody needs to be mindful that if they decide to gather at any other public attraction, the owners may not appreciate a large influx of cars parking up and the occupants just hanging around and chatting without paying an admission fee!

The ground is already flooded down here after the past two weeks of wet weather, is there going to be a secondary meet point for the club? :)

There is another 1 1/2 days of rain forecast for this afternoon & Wednesday.

Perhaps there has been less rain in Brum I don't know, but the conditions down here would make parking vast numbers of two wheel drive vehicles on grass via necessary choke point entrances unlikely?

Very little thought is ever given to people traveling long distances only to spend a few hours parked on the side of the road. In the past enthusiasts have brought their Rover 75's across from Europe and booked hotels etc.

Being fair, the organiser has posted on Facebook saying they are bearing the weather situation in mind, but currently the park condition is OK.
