Rover 200 & 400 Owners Club

A portable set of early Rover Diagosnic Test Kit [Testbook] Would draw a few extra to a club events, were we as a club to show up with a test set and run diagnostic's for club members?

Having had a few 214's - all of them have had alternator faults, and two had to have water pumps.

I've also never had an R8 that hasn't had central locking problems - so saving the regulators has got to be up there.

At least two I've had have had electric window issues too, so saving the electric window motors has got to be a must.

With respect to Rimmer Bros, I have found that not only are all the R8 brake servo units 'out of stock', but also the master cyl' assy' and worse than that they don't even stock m/cyl' repair kit's either.

These are all components that will eventually fail and either require replacement to satisfy the MOT, or kill the car.

I note that the Honda ALB kit is stocked and repair kit's too I wonder if they could be persuaded to throw that obsolete kit away and free up some shelf space?

In a nutshell I think tin worm is the biggest killer, lots of parts available and with places like
this as a resource for parts and info its going to keep them around for a lot longer yet.

People still not wanting the lesser models?? I've had my 214sli for nearly 10 years and couldn't sell it two years ago when I tried to get £400 for it. I've happily ran it for another two years but the headgasket went before Christmas and I knew it would need a few other jobs for its next mot. I've done most of the jobs now with only the trailing arm bushes left to do but then the engine has another issue again eventhough I haven't had it back on the road yet. The head was skiimmed, new hg fitted with water pump,cambelt etc and a new sump as the old one was getting very rusty. Car has ran great for a few weeks just in and out of the garage and been left to tick over then suddenly it has started pushing the coolant out of the header tank again but not over heating. So now as I've spent more on this car than it is worth just so I could keep it on the road as I know no one else wanted it, it now has me wanting to just take it to the scrap yard which would be ashame as the body is still good.

It's difficult to ignore the value of the vehicle you're spending money on but it's important to also consider the cost of the alternatives, ie buying another car, when deciding what to do but you should.

I had a friend ask me for advice on buying a 'more reliable car' when he hadn't had any problems with his current one for the last 2 years and had just bought new tyres for it

Thats true but I've just kept this because I like it however now its starting to annoy me, I've got plenty of other classics and the 214 isn't my daily anymore so I don't need to replace it I could just say enough is enough and scrap it. I'll leave it for a few weeks again and might just drop another engine in, I've got one spare left just not sure if its a 14 or 16 and I can't read the number on it.

Could your coolant pressure problem be caused by an airlock in the system?

That can sometimes happen after the cooling system has been worked on, even after the system has been fully bled when first started up.

Thats what I was hopeing but not sure yet, there are still some air bubbles coming up into the header tank it just seems to be pushing to much water back up and it started with a missfire this morning which is never a good sign. I'll take the plugs out tomorrow and spin it over to see if there is water in the cylinders again.
