James3990 wrote: Thu Jan 06, 2022 3:05 pm It's been just over 2 months since I stopped working on the Racer due to our house renovations taking shape, but the itch for working on the car has never gone away and was gradually getting worse so I needed to relieve some of that :)

This is the current state of my man cave, taking longer than anticipated
I know the feeling about getting the itch to do something and can’t.
We’re currently in rented accommodation with no garage and parking only for our daily drives .My man cave is a shed full of bikes, gardening equipment and boxes that might be useful :blink
My lock up garage is a mile away with no power and where everything is done by torch light, thank goodness for rechargeable LED strip lights.
Hopefully you’ll get your garage sorted soon ( as I am hoping to buy a place with garage space) and then the itch can be treated whenever it occurs :laughing2
Great project - looking forward to seeing the end result in action

Small update

Building work is still nowhere near finished on the house so the itchy fingers started to come back again...

I managed to get myself some stainless steel coolant pipes so decided to get these fitted along with fixing a coolant leak coming from the water pump housing.

Unfortunately the race seat I brought last year was too small for my waist size, so I managed to pick up a Sparco bucket seat and got this bolted down and adjusted to suit my driving position.

Thanks for looking.

Small update,

The house is approx 3-4 weeks away from being completed so it won’t be long before the work on the car can pick back up again.

I’ve been booked in since Christmas to get some of the bodywork sorted on the racer and the time has finally come. This is something way outside my skill level so I’m leaving this job to the professionals.

Both the sills and arches need attention but to what extent, I’m not yet sure….. The car was loaded onto a recovery truck and off to Nottingham to see a very talented fabricator.

Image

When I say talented, here are some hand made replica panels that will be used to tidy up the arches and lower sill section.

And here are some close up pictures of the rust discovery so far….It’s looking very likely that full length sills will be needed :blink

Looking good!

Those could be the 3rd version of repair panels made for the Coupe - the RCOC offers a large 3/4, sill and wheelarch panel and 2 keen club members now are developing the ones your have. Unless it's the same guys...

Good to have the choice :cool

Another update to report.

You've got to remember with this car, despite all the work that's been done converting it to a Dunlop specification race car, it did live a previous life as a normal road-going Coupe up until approx 2013 covering just over 85,000 miles. There's been some previous owner repairs carried out to the bodywork over the years but nothing to this level, so there's no doubt in my mind that behind the outer skin will be a few nasty surprises.

Thankfully I'm in safe hands, so there's no need to be scared as the pictures below explain :rolleyes

There is still more corrosion to tackle on the arches, but the fabricator focusing on the sills first and making some pretty impressive progress on the repair work with new metal :cool
