Personally I don't like the new mg range, they seem like insults to their ancestors

To be fair, hardline MG enthusiasts have said that several times over the years:
1962, when the MG1100 was launched.
1982, when the MG Metro was launched.
2001, when the ZR, ZS and ZT were launched.
And probably a few other times too

Personally, I quite like the MG3 as a package: it certainly embodies the spirit of the MG Metro, although it would have been better if they had a slightly more exciting engine to offer. I do know of one that has been fitted with a turbocharged 1.8 K-series from a ZT!

I wouldn't buy anything from the Chinese if there was an option not to, I say that because I bought one of their washing machines last year, but needs must!
They don't or didn't understand what M.G stands for and thought that Longbridge, not Abingdon was the home of the marque.
Their repressive regime at home and in Hong Kong, plus their activities in the South China Sea are all clear signs of the present leaderships expansionist, autocratic ambition.
I will avoid buying from them, in just the same way I avoided S.African products back in the 70's.
It's no more a British car than something called Rowe after all.

So spoke to a guy who rebuilds/recondtions PG1 boxes for a living, he will recon my k7ar montego turbo box with a new bell housing for £200. He will build me a new box to my spec for £450-£500
This is good news as my box tinkled its oil last year and I have left it feeling sorry for itself
Mind, the casing was "glued" by the guy I bought the box off some years ago

Well did some work today
The gearbox is now fixed,
a few issues I have found, the rear caliper is leaking again from the banjo and upon inspection the rear braided lines are in poor condition and the caliper is old and the banjo mating surface is pitted,
I have decided to order a new rear caliper and a pair of new rear brake lines, which I did today.
Does anyone forsee a problem with just 1 new rear caliper?
Its th2 bigger zr 160 / zs 180 caliper so cost me £90 for one side
I am a known cheapskate so this is a major expense for me
.
So not much to do and we are all good again.
Here is hoping!

The banjo should have a copper washer on each side of the clamping face otherwise they will leak. I'm not sure if you have these fitted but its worth fitting new washers with the new items.
With one new caliper, its worth stripping down the other side (Carrier pins, brake pads & shims removed) and give it all a good clean up of rust/brake dust/dirt with wire wheel & WD40
Make sure handbrake is fully released inside the car and that both calipers (pistons) fully retract back into resting position where the spring mechanism is.
Rear calipers have a tendency of sticking with lack of use so you want to make sure once all bolted together that the cables are level behind the handbrake lever, when loose (handbrake off) and under tension (handbrake on) like pictured below. If they are unbalanced then something isn't quite right.

Re: Vinny's Rover 220 GSi Turbo Diary - September 2020, new alternator!
Many thanks
Well I’ve just noticed today there is a crack right in the passenger side of the front windscreen which goes up 3 or 4 inches then heads down towards the vin number plate,
Obviously I’m mighty annoyed by this
So questions
Are these still able to be sourced?
Mine has the blue tint at the top which I want to keep
I have also heard horror stories about the clips at the side trims breaking
What’s the deal with these if the windscreen man breaks them.?
Are there replacement clips available ?
Anyone have any pictures?
I do have the 3 door black trims that run along top of the doors and they have some weird clips on them I imagine they are different
Any help appreciated
Vinny

Autoglass might be able to do then, but I'm not entirely sure

I have a healthy supply of the A pillar clips as I thought I was ordering individual clips but was in fact ordering a bag of 8!
If you need any just PM your address and I'll pop a bag of 8 clips in the post.
Link to the ones I brought is as follows

I got good advice last year on removing A Pillar trims on this post but it was still a real pain as the clips should in theory come out with a 1/4 of a turn but the plastic butterflies spread out making removal difficult. Gentle touch required rather than brute force.

Thank you plodder
Clips arrived today
As did my spanner!
Removed the passenger trim already just to see if I could do it
I think I will just remove them before window man comes
Not sure about the top trim whether they will
Reuse that?
Anyway
Thank you very much plodder!
