JPJ is mine and the Tempest Grey appears a lot darker in the photo than it actually is. I can also confirm it is original.

Oh dear, that still hasn’t put my mind at rest. I’m still slightly confused, although those who know me will no doubt argue that confusion is my constant companion! 😭

The blue of AHP looks spot on and the grey looks more or less the same as mine.

I hope to pop up tomorrow to fit a few items, so I will treat one of the rubbing strips and fit it for comparison.

As a matter of interest, has anyone else had the Tempest Grey resprayed on their car?

I popped up earlier to start refitting parts and had another look at the grey. I’m now pretty sure that it’s correct, as it didn’t seem as dark or as glossy as it did the other day. Not that you would know it from the photo!

It certainly looks a better match in the latest photo.

Had a full glass-out re-spray so "yes". I also had the rear arches done a couple of years before the respray and they were done then too :laughing2

I also found the Halfords Tempest Grey rattle cans a good match if there hasn't been too much sunlight discolouration of the original paint. Then again, since the edge is hidden under the rubbing strips I would say it's possible even for the average owner to re-spray their tempest grey lower halves. They still sell the Tempest Grey cans, unlike Flame Red '89 :mad which no-one else seems to know exists.

Is there the code for Flame Red 89 different from Flame Red?
If not, what dates did they use Flame Red 89 in preference to just Flame Red.
I will want to make sure I get the right Flame Red for my car when I get round to getting it resprayed at a future dste

There was a Flame Red from 1969 until 1972 used on most of the Austin-Morris and MG range (code CMB)

To add further confusion, there are two codes for Flame Red 1989 (COE and COF). I think this is because the 'cheaper' end of the Rover range (Mini, Metro, Maestro etc) did not have a clearcoat lacquer on the solid colours.

That's interesting Paul. I always thought the different paint codes for the same colour differentiated between Longbridge and Cowley paint shops? There is a NOS flame red 88-90 Metro bumper for sale on ebay with a sticker saying Flame Red COF.

My VIN plate is COF and clearly has the lacquer coat.
I know when I got the spoiler and spats sprayed the guy said there was a bit of confusion as to the colour requested , I only told him Flame Red not Flame Red 89.
I believe the company that did the subsequent bodywork repairs used some kit to match the paint so were probably able to see what the real code was for that vehicle.
Definitely an addition to my history notes on the car. Thanks
